Publisher's summary

Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living.

The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment. Its internal dialogue is always firing off thoughts filled with emotional content and pulling the individual out of the present and into the past or future. But individuals raised in Western culture are becoming increasingly aware of their overall sense of mental exhaustion, their lack of discipline and their inability to focus on demand. They are willing to expend the energy necessary to experience inner peace and a quiet mind that is waiting to follow the direction of their will. They are realizing that the endless struggle to fulfill the insatiable appetite of instant gratification is fruitless and tiresome at best. They are ripe for a new path in life and eager for a new set of instructions.

This is the purpose of The Practicing Mind. It comprehensively deals with helping the individual understand exactly what present-moment awareness is, how we are raised in a manner contradictory to this, and how we change our mindset to make this a part of our daily living. This book is accessible to listeners of all philosophical backgrounds. Regardless of your perspective, you will find the book's insights most compelling.

It's looking at the same thing through a different perspective!

I enjoyed this book! It's nothing new, but looking at the same thing through a different perspective.
I feel I can make small changes in my daily life to live more in the present and not caught up in my emotions and the anxiety that brings. It's amazing how often our info run rampant and we just go along for the ride. It's exhausting.

CHANGED MY LIFE.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

So like the title says, this book changed my life. I'm a huge book nerd. I love reading and listening to audiobooks. I believe that acquiring specialized knowledge that will help you achieve success is the only way.

This book shattered my current reality of learning and the process of life. As a 22 year old millennial, I am extremely guilty of "wanting it now". However this mindset has not served me whatsoever.

For example - I was a bit overweight before I read this book. Like all of us, I've been telling myself for years that I will get in the gym, eat healthy, etc. I set moonshot goals. Well, years went by and nothing changed. I kept wondering why. I WANTED to get into shape, I WANTED to eat healthy, but I just ... didn't. It made me realize the mind has more control than I ever imagined. I had all these excuses on why. "I don't know enough about working out" "I don't know proper form, until I can find someone to train me I won't go to the gym" "I don't really know much about eating healthy". The list goes on...

After learning the principles in this book, it changed everything. I erased my moonshot goals, and started setting micro-goals. For example, rather than getting upset about not knowing how to workout, I spent an hour a day learning the different movements and forms. AND IT WAS FUN. Because I KNEW that this was part of the process. And after every note taking session, I was ONE STEP CLOSER to my previous moon-shot goal.

By completely disregarding the PRODUCT, I embraced the process. Now, instead of feeling anxiety when I think about the gym, I get excited.

One last note... I can't emphasize ENOUGH how important understanding the process of learning and achieving is. None of your goals or desires will ever be reached if you don't have the foundation to get there.

Embracing the process creates the product. My paradigm has been shifted and I am eternally grateful to the author, and the mentors of the author. I find it so amazing that such life changing information has been passed down since the beginning of time.

Thank you Thomas.

Who was your favorite character and why?
