Start with this one!

I listen to inspirational/motivational books every day while driving to keep me from bursting into flames while engulfed in road rage on the streets of Los Angeles. They help. Really.

Many of the them are repetitive and I catch myself being lulled into a sort of dance like state by the materials. Not a bad thing, I guess, especially considering that it keeps me from ramming my CRV into nearby motorists.

This book was different. It was... more.

I heard about the book when a kooky, older man came in to the bar where I work. he struck up a conversation and started telling me things about myself like he was psychic. I later learned that this was his job. All well and good but i was not paying someone to tell me that I wold meet a tall, handsome stranger after he saw my ringless finger.

This man told me that I was on a life changing journey and in year 6 of a 7 year cycle. This was the year I would "regain my power." Okay. And what does this have to do with anything?

Anyway, he told me that a lot of the changes that were going on in my life were necessary at this time but then said that if I really wanted to see a big difference in a short period of time then I should check this book out. " It's life altering." ( I later found out that this guy was an advisor for Tony Robbins for many years.)

I was looking for a new book. This recommendation came the day before my monthly credit came in so it was right on time.

I read the reviews and saw how long the book had been around. It was worth a shot.

I just have to say that I was so pleasantly surprised by the logic and flow of how the material was presented. Although I like books that inspire positive thinking and encourage visualization. I cannot stand airy fairy books with rambling babble that sound like yoda wrote them. Give it to me straight but give me a little reason with my "faith."

This book was great! It is the grandaddy to books like "The Secret." It was a million times better than any of its offshoots.

I noticed an immediate change in my productivity and attitude. I cannot recommend this book more highly.

It is definitely worth the price. I know I will be listening to it repeatedly!

THE BOOK I will live by from now on

I had already read the book and I bought this to solidify what I had read...

The audio book blew me away, it allowed me to catch things I had not paid attention to while reading it. The way the author reads the book makes it crystal clear.

I have read tons of books on personal improvement and the law of attraction and this is by far the best one because it takes a bit of all of them. Ultimately our surroundings come from the way we think about things and ourselves. This book not only explains this in complete detail but GIVES YOU THE WAYS TO DO IT.

I think that is the biggest difference between some of the other books I have read. Good explanation and great application methods. If you are in a work environment that demands the best in you or want to change your surroundings, give this a couple of read throughs.

I am not religious (but believe in god) but the biblical quotes serve their purpose well.

I suppose my only complaint with the book (I had no idea it was written in the 60s) are some of the example are... well old. Nothing wrong with that since the book was written when it was.

Some other good books to solidify your mental training that I recommend are...

Louisas Hays You Can Heal Your Life (also mental)
Napoleon Hills Think and Grow Rich
Any of Masaru Emotos books (how thoughts change our physical surroundings)
Michael Losier Law of Attraction The Science of Attracting More of What You Want

I hope you guys find my review useful and take a show with the book!

Love and Peace.

Bridges the Law of attraction and Christianity

I really loved this book! I think it's a bit controversial because anything that has to do with religion generally is. I wouldn’t say it's all about religion but it quotes the bible more than a few times so you should definitely know that before purchasing it. For me it bridged the gap I had from completely "buying" the law of attraction. I have read the secret and several other books about the law of attraction but I just didn't buy it. I didn't think it could be as simple as thinking it, visualizing it and it will happen. This book put it in a different perspective for me. I love that he works in a lot of real stories that happened to people he knows. For me, those stories really helped. The most important thing that helped me was that at some point in the book he also addresses the fact that as Christians we sometimes are taught that it's bad so be rich or that it's evil to want for money so we might have conflicts between what we want and what we are "supposed" to want. For example, if you are jealous of someone that has more money than you, you might criticize them for having money but really you want it for yourself. He says those are conflicting thoughts because you are criticizing what you want. Those thoughts are just the reason why you don't have it in the first place. Because on one hand you want it but in essence you are also saying you don't because you are putting that same thing down when you criticize it. According to him you have to get everything in line, your believes, your thoughts, your actions, and your expectancy that what you want, you will one day get. Oh and something else that is important, you also have to give up the how. He says to just believe you will receive it but leave the HOW it will happen up to your subconscious mind to get it for you. You should definitely pick this book up if you feel like the law of attraction doesn't have enough substance this might just do the trick to help you as it helped me.

One endless infomercial of pop-psych & banalities

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who would enjoy 7 hours of encouragement to think more positively to resonate with the universal wisdom of God (your subconscious). This book is replete with unreferenced anecdotes that aren't even framed as arguments, but it is one mystical riff endlessly regurgitated in what sounds like a 2am infomercial promising you power, riches, and more virility.

Has The Power of Your Subconscious Mind turned you off from other books in this genre?

Absolutely. There is no integrity in this genre if this is a best sellar. Not even pop-pyschology, not even pop philosophy...pop cliches, and imprecise, ambiguous language, always delivered with comic hyperbolic claims.

Have you listened to any of Jason Culp’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The performance is strong. He was working with utter tripe. He didn't get to steak, but maybe we got to sweet breads.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger that I lost a credit. Sadness that this is considered a best seller. Disappointment that I did, indeed, suffer through every second hoping we'd get past the same story told over and over again. I swear, sometimes I feel like the author wrote a chapter forgetting that he already wrote all of it in the previous chapter.

If you could sum up The Power of Your Subconscious Mind in three words, what would they be?

I have listened to this audible and will listen to it again and again as I am sure I will find tid bits I missed. The information in this book is life changing!

What other book might you compare The Power of Your Subconscious Mind to and why?

Excuses Be Gone because in that book Wayne Dyer explains how your thoughts create who and what you are.
