At age 16 this book saved my life physically, later my soul Spiritually.
I so respect this old time Methodist Preacher. What a kind, gentle, caring
soul he is. Could not put the paper copy down as a kid. Read this book and
reread it over the years. I took notes and high lighted my original copy.
Thought having it on my Mp3 for driving would keep me at peace and balanced
in a good place. Life comes at you fast! It's good to know where the bumps are
in the road ahead and to be prepared ahead of time. This book is good for that as
well as showing you the way out of any pitfall you already are in! I cannot wait to
meet you on the other side Dr. Peale. Because of you, I will be there. <3
Everything! His tone, the way his true heart comes through. His earnestness in wanting to somehow help lift up and pull up people to be better, do better, 'like' themselves. <3
It LIFTED tons of invisible yet very real WEIGHTS from my back & shoulders & Spirit.
I am not where I belong and want to be at this time but I thank God for Norman Vincent Peale that I'm most certainly NOT where I 'used' to be!!! Hoo Rah!
A time tested book. I found alot of the information to be very helpful. It contains a balance of religion with the advice it has in it. Worth every penny.
I have to admit I have owned the book for almost a decade and struggled to get through it. Maybe the difference is the period which it was written in or his ability to tie the bible in. It just didn't create any feeling of curiosity or desire. The style of the book and the audio abridged version I felt lacked excitement and gratitude, that one should feel after hearing the message of Peale. This book and audio program has sold millions and I still recommend both as they have key principles that may help you look at your self differently. May you listen to this audio book and do what's most important which is take a thorough self analysis to understanding yourself. Conquer yourself by creating better habits by stacking good ones all day.
A classic ! Kind of reminds me of How to win friends and influence people. I loved the fact that the author is the narrator, some of the storys he used, i found to be quite funny and had a few good laughs through out listening. I loved it ! It really emphasized the power of faith and prayer which I find absolutely essential to surviving day to day life. Most people can use all the tip they can get to stay positive. I esspecially enjoyed his remedy for worrying. I helps.
I listened to this 12 years ago and I had to add it to my collection. I'm not of his faith, but the principles are universal. Definitely worth listening to.
This book has helped me understand and work on a number of inner issues that I have been struggling with. Just listening to this book will inspire you to live a higher life. I'll be listning to this book few more times, each time I read it i learn to overcome another issue that I have been living with for many years.
I enjoy this book! Uplifting and well presented for the lay person. I listen to it everytime I need it!
Hoped this would give me more insight into the healing process after the death of our teenage son. The focus on God and prayer just does not resonate with me with this book. Listening to some of the stories, I could not relate to most. When the worst that can happen to a parent happens, I was looking for some spiritual guidance that was not soley religion based. I am finding that looking to Buddhism and Tao is more of a help. Organized religion at this point in our attempt to deal with his death is not helping. The focus on prayer makes us feel like failures. We can't pray right now. All we can do is breathe. Prayer didn't keep the worst from happening. I know this could be debated by many, but I am simply not in a position to feel that organized religions have helped us through this horrible experience.
Less focus on what he considers the power of prayer. I prayed and prayed that my children would be safe, so when our son died, it was like a slap in the face after all the years of intense prayer.
Somewhat. His voice is not exactly easy to listen to.
I think for people who are very comfortable with organized religion, it is probably very helpful. We were very active in organized religion; however, our church failed to come to our aid, offering no solace, no comfort and no follow up to see how we were doing. Thus, our turn to learning more about spirituality that is not organized religion based. I found much more solace in the Buddhist way of honoring a child who has passed. I find solace in nature and small things, like the beauty of a sunset. I feel the power of a higher being as I learn more about Buddhism and Tao.
No knocking Normal Vincent Peale, just could not relate.
This audio books is OK I guess if you are a committed Christian. with constant and irritating references to the bible, praying, the scriptures. the voice is of an american older gentleman and is quite annoying and slow.
full of stories of his life experiences.witch makes up most of the book with little practical advice apart from read the bible and pray ect ect more like a sermon in church than a practical self help book.
