This is one of the best books on insomnia I have ever read. I realized that insomnia is really just fear. The fear of not sleeping is what creates insomnia. The author has worked a way around the mind-bending complexity of this disorder and she offers some practical and useful tips for getting better sleep. I can now say I am no longer afraid of not sleeping, and consequently I am sleeping much better.
She figured it out and put it all together. Her story is my story, but I I have suffered from insomnia for 40 years and this makes so much sense. I felt so alone and now I feel hopeful and so far good results,

If you've just read the title of my review then I've summed up the main premise of the book for you in nine words!
Nothing here that doesn't become obvious if you can't sleep for a while. I didn't hear much I hadn't heard at some point before, or worked out for myself. Quite good in a reassuring way, to know that there isn't any quick fix I wasn't aware of and that It's a good thing not to worry about not sleeping if you can't, because people do try and make you feel you ought to be trying to do something about it...So it is reassuring that she's put into words some of what I was thinking anyway. Other things she said were only relevant to people who only have a problem sleeping, like only spending time in bed if you're sleeping; I don't agree with that, as, so long as you are resting, relaxing your body and getting the rest you require even if you aren't actually asleep; as long as you don't worry about it and think it doesn't matter(perhaps occupy your mind with a gentle audio book as I do), then it's okay and you're at rest even when you're not sleeping.
So some of what she said sounded quite amusing in some ways, it even sounded slightly crazy, as obviously if you obsess about not sleeping it's never going to help. Is she for real that it took her so long to work out that if you worry about not sleeping it makes it worse and perpetuates the cycle? I guess so or she wouldn't have written so much!

1. A great book for psychological insomnia but not for secondary insomnia.
2. Worth reading because it gives unconventional (mindset resetting and boosting), holistic advices that are very reassuring to the reader/sufferer. This helps them to address the root of their issue. Rather than repeating the old remedies of computers and phones off before bed, dark room and cool temperature etc. that most of us already know, she paints a different attitude and vibe for our understanding of insomnia.
I'm glad I stumbled on this book!

I've always struggled a lot with insomnia ever since childhood. Despite trying many many different methods not much really helped. I found some nuggets of gold in this book that have helped me achieve a healthier sleep pattern. My sleep isn't perfect but since reading this book I certainly have more tools available to me to address the problem.
