The breakthrough program to end relapse, end suffering, and achieve total recovery from all dependencies.
Passages, in Malibu, California, is the world's most successful addiction cure center. The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure contains the three-step holistic program to total recovery that is the basis of the miraculous success of Passages. In this revolutionary book, you will learn:
"Freedom from dependency starts with understanding that alcohol, drugs, and addictive behaviors are not the real problems," says Chris Prentiss, cofounder of Passages Addiction Cure Center. "Alcohol, street drugs, nicotine, prescription medications, food bingeing, gambling, and the like are merely the substances or behaviors you or your loved ones are using to cope with the real problems - anything from deep emotional pain, ill health, or depression to hypoglycemia, a sluggish thyroid, or brain-wave pattern imbalances. Once the underlying problems are discovered and cured, the need for drugs, alcohol, or addictive behavior will disappear - along with the craving."
Prentiss should know. His son Pax was addicted to heroin, cocaine, and alcohol for ten years. They sought help everywhere, but Pax relapsed again and again. In desperation, they finally created their own holistic, hand-tailored program that was a complete break from all other programs and that combined several effective therapies. It saved Pax's life. Together, father and son founded Passages to help others find their own freedom.
For decades, we've been hearing that alcoholism and addiction are incurable diseases, but The Alcoholism and Addiction Cure©2005 Power Press; (P)2005 Power Press
"This thought-provoking book causes any reader to closely examine their life. One of its premises is that it isn't the alcohol or drugs that are the problem; rather, it is usually a person's physical, mental or emotional imbalance that the substances seem to alleviate. If a person can identify the imbalance and heal it, then the drugs and alcohol are no longer lusted after....I highly suggest this book for anyone who wants to be cured or assist a loved one in finding their own cure!" (Natural Beauty & Health)
"An excellent guide and resource book for anyone dealing with addiction, either for themselves or their families/friends....The program offers fresh hope to many for whom conventional treatments have not worked." (Yoga & Health, Great Britain)
"An excellent resource for anyone dealing with addictions or trying to understand their life. It will help you to define yourself and your problem in a way that will empower you and end any victim mentality. It is written in a style that is easy to understand and learn from because it is written by natives: people who have lived the message....This book contains the information that can start you on the road to recovery." (Bernie Siegel, M.D., #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Medicine & Miracles)
Passages is a rehabilitation center in Malibu that boasts an unsurpassed success rate. This book is by the founder and his son, who provides the most interesting part of the book.
Pax Prentiss spent 10 years as an addict. When he shook his habit, he had the zeal of a new convert, anxious to help others find the resolution he had found. The gruesome story of his addiction years crackles with life, and provides the single best reason to listen to any part of this book.
Passages uses no fewer than seven specialists during its 50 one-on-one hour sessions, each of which is discussed in detail. This strongly suggests that the approach isn't for everyone, whether for reasons of distance, cost or lack of confidence in some of the treatment approaches.
Author Prentiss doesn't so much outline his treatment program as redefine the vocabulary of recovery. He says no one is addicted, but some people have "dependancies." Most drug centers claim "we can't cure, but we can heal;" Prentiss claims to "cure," but not in the way most addicts want - a major part of the "cure" involves the patient never using their drug of choice again. And so on.
It scares me that many people may try to use this book as the blueprint for their own self-treatment effort. I suspect, however, that somewhere during the long and repetitive discussion of the work of the seven specialists, most listeners would be more likely to turn off the CD and head for a more convenient, less expensive option.
Informative, but hard to recommend.
The central insight of this book can be reduced to a simple statement: treat the cause (low self-esteem, etc.), not the symptom (addiction). The rest is padding, and above all endless praise for the author's Malibu clinic, Passages. I hope the author does good clinical work. The book is disappointing.
Spends 90% of the time telling his sons story and not much info on specific ways to stop drugs or alcohol. Too much like "a million little pieces" and who needs to read that again.
there was absolutely nothing unique about the first five hours or first half of this audiobook. In fact had this been spoken by an individual at any typical AA or NA meeting they would have put many too sleep and been prompted to get to a useful point. Any addict posseses the talent of dramatizing their behavior- however it doesn't take 5 hours to illustrate the insanity of addiction through personal war stories.
it appears too me that this so called recovered individual couldn't resist the temptation for one last stab at some old behavior, that is, dressing something up to appear as something it is not, all for a quick buck/fix.
this method is only for the rich. what about the rest of humanity? $40,000 a month...what an outrage!
The first chapter is a sales pitch for the author's business. The rest of the book is very well written, informative, helpful, and easy to listen to.
After I listened to this book, I looked into what this place charges. It is no wonder they think their system is foolproof. Who would pay that if it wasn't? I wish I had passed this one up. Chris Prentiss is a feel good guru and I feel like I got a bit brainwashed listening to his mantra. Don't bother.
I love this book and flew through it in a matter if 2 days! I would recommend to anyone who needs to overcome any life struggles. Not only alcohol or drugs, but eating disorders, ticks, depression, anxiety! this book will change your life! Read it! our listen to it as audible does :)
I never did buy into the victim mentality of
"I'm and alcoholic".
It never resonated to affirm that you have a disease.
Well, this book says "cure", and I agree.
I acquired a new way to look at life, myself, and others. My life is changed!
