No nation can be greater than the strength of its individual homes or the virtue of its people. Sadly, many today would say ours is a nation in crisis. Families are splintering around us, our children are becoming alienated from their great cultural heritage, and our leaders seem increasingly out of touch. Yet, according to Gordon B. Hinckley, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one cannot lose hope. The solution lies not within our government, schools, or symbols of popular culture, but rather within ourselves, our families, and our faith.
In the tradition of William Bennett's Book of Virtues, Hinckley has created a classic look at the values that can change our world - and how to stand up for them. Drawing on anecdotes from his own life, as well as from our nation today, he examines 10 virtues that have proven through the ages to provide the most profound path to a better world: love, honesty, morality, civility, learning, forgiveness and mercy, thrift and industry, gratitude, optimism, and faith.
Standing for Something is an inspiring blue-print for what we can all do - as individuals, as a nation, and as a world community - to rediscover the values that make us strong and by which all of us can work toward a brighter future.

I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to improve their family, relationships and personal committments to truth and timeless values.
The author has a lifetime of experience. It is refreshing to hear someone reminiscing in such a positive way.
Being honest and decent is still as relevant today as it has ever been.
It was a little longer than I expected. But it is an enjoyable and worthwhile listen to reinvigorate your sense of purpose.
This book is truly inspiring. It will help you to become a better person. It helps to re center your life on timeless old fashion but not outdated values.
Dad, Dentist, Adventurer. Well... at least 2 of those.
If you've ever heard anyone talk about old fashion morals and values and wondered what they were talking about this book is your answer. This book will encourage you to stand a little taller; be a little more forgiving of others faults; and inspire you to take another look at the life of Jesus as a guide for modern living.
This book provides thought and motivation for young and not so young to become men and women of good character. You can change your beginning but with the help of this book you can change the ending of your life story
I usually don't love hearing the opinion of old people, but Gordon Hinckley manages to spin an interesting read through his anecdotes and reasonings. Many of an older generation remember history through rose colored glasses, but this book looks at the future that way without sounding obnoxious or fantastical. A good read. The reader is a little dry and comes across as thunderous at times, but he his clear and easily understandable.
I have read many self improvement books, even started writing one myself. Standing for Something is definitely my most favorite one.
