Audie Award Nominee, Business and Educational, 2013

Three former CIA officers - among the world’s foremost authorities on recognizing deceptive behavior - share their proven techniques for uncovering a lie.

Imagine how different your life would be if you could tell whether someone was lying or telling you the truth. Be it hiring a new employee, investing in a financial interest, speaking with your child about drugs, confronting your significant other about suspected infidelity, or even dating someone new, having the ability to unmask a lie can have far-reaching and even life-altering consequences.

As former CIA officers, Philip Houston, Michael Floyd, and Susan Carnicero are among the world’s best at recognizing deceptive behavior. Spy the Lie chronicles the captivating story of how they used a methodology Houston developed to detect deception in the counterterrorism and criminal investigation realms, and shows how these techniques can be applied in our daily lives.

Through fascinating anecdotes from their intelligence careers, the authors teach listeners how to recognize deceptive behaviors, both verbal and nonverbal, that we all tend to display when we respond to questions untruthfully. For the first time, they share with the general public their methodology and their secrets to the art of asking questions that elicit the truth.

Spy the Lie is a game-changer. You may never experience another book that has a more dramatic impact on your career, your relationships, or your future.

Fascinating! I've listened to it multiple times

Would you consider the audio edition of Spy the Lie to be better than the print version?

Not better than print. There are indexes that are not included in the audible version. But a great listen! Whenever I finish one book, I go right back and listen to Spy The Lie for a review. Love it!

What did you like best about this story?

I was shocked by all the ways people, politicians, coworkers, bosses, KIDs, everyone lies. Especially useful for parents!!

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Spy the Lie?

Being able to identify the times and ways people prevaricate. Very interesting...MMT

Very good, and very detailed

I loved this book. I'm about to listen to it again as it has so much detail, it's hard to capture the first time.

Fantastic

I love this book. I have the hard copy and have read it several times. I was thrilled to find it in audio form because i like to refresh on the extremely informative and valuable skills they break down. I was really impressed with the narrator as well. He had a great voice that seemed to fit the topic. He was a strong reader and showed natural emotion instead of monotones. This book not only breaks down cases to show you how the model works, it talks about how you can use it yourself effectively and it really does work. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in behavior detection or deception. Especially if you work in public service.

More useful than I thought it would be

Enjoyed the stories used to illustrate the techniques. More than that, the stories help to understand the application of the techniques. Want to go deeper into the process.

My thoughts were confirmed here.

I thought this was a good book. It was informative and confirmed what most people would naturally suspect of a liar. It was worth the price and I will read it at least two more times.

handy but use caution

A very good intro to how to spot liars and exaggeration. Teaches one the right questions and directions to use when asking kids about drug use which is handy. If you are living happily in ignorance perhaps do not listen to this book, but if you are sick of being lied to unknowingly then it is a great start.
