I was looking for a resource that would help me develop as a DM. I had been a DM for years doing the same thing over and over. I felt like something was missing but couldn't figure out what it was. This book helped.
Short and to the point. This book reminds you that preparing a game does not have to be a 20 hour process. The author gives lots of great advice and resources plus the text is VERY up-to-date.
The advice in this book is really solid and easy to follow. And the book is short enough to listen to multiple times to get the lessons to sink in.
Unfortunately the book was written prior to 5E, but the advice is general enough to help with DMing any game. The focus is really on how to be flexible and build easy and lazy tools to make running both sandboxy and module games easier. Also good advice on how to keep your more sandboxy games from getting lost!
As a DM who is often overwhelmed by the amount of prep work associated with bringing a module to to table in a competent manner, I found this book has a lot of helpful information about how to reduce some of the things that eat up a lot of time and don't provide a lot of in-game payoff. Also, the book gets to the point and doesn't waste a lot of time. At under 3 hours, it's not a huge time investment to get the knowledge it offers.
-1 star as it refers to a pdf a number of times that is supposed to be supplied with this audiobook that you never receive with Audible. It doesn't hamper things too much, but it really would have been nice to have.
Good advice all around, though I am missing the PDF that is supposed to accompany this book. also at only 2.5 hours, do not spend a credit on this book.
