Publisher's summary

Shut Up, Stop Whining, and Get a Life is a Wall Street Journal number-one best seller that isn't afraid to tell you it's time to change. From motivational speaker Larry Winget, also known as "The Pit-bull of Personal Development" and "The World's Only Irritational Speaker", comes a not-so-typical self-help book. Winget's hilarious and in-your-face observations about the sometimes ugly truth of life will kick you in the butt and encourage you to change your life for the better.

Author should follow his own advice

The only thing I was whining about after listening to this book was wasting my money on it. The author starts out OK but the book devolves into a series of rants and attacks. Basically the author spends the last half of the book whining about others and what is wrong with their positions, points of view, or personal beliefs. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt but this guy has his own problems. Don't waste your time.

Too much self whining

It seems like the author is complaining that people are whining, too much, but intern is just whining himself.

Larry I love ya..but

Unfortunately, I won't be able to finish this book because of the narrator. I'm sure he would be a great replacement narrator for Casey Casem... but he simply doesn't cut the mustard for this book. It's more like he cuts the cheese.
I purchased "You're Broke because..." first. Then I purchased "It's Called Work". Both were read by you(Larry), so I was expecting this book to be read by you as well.
But... Larry..you already knew this didn't you. THAT's why YOU didn't use him for the other books!
If I'd just listened to the sample, or read the reviews I'd have known. But that's MY fault isn't it:-)
Bottom line to the readers of reviews. Leave this book alone until Larry reads it himself..or at least finds someone with a genuine understanding and belief in it's concepts. This guy is probably a nice guy, but this material is about truth...and sometimes the truth isn't nice at all.

Nothing new under the sun

The author makes it clear that he gains most of his insight and understanding from reading books and listening to self help audio...just like the rest of us. Having read / listened to a few titles, I found nothing new except the admission that he'll try to be somewhat offensive in order to get our attention before dispensing the same prescriptions all the other authors have been giving for years.

The reader

The book was amazing! But the audio book was read by someone other than Larry Winget and really did not fit the title. He is not exciting or enthusiastic at all! I wish this would have been read by Larry himself. Overall, it has the information but if your thinking it will be as motivating as the book...WRONG! Stick with the book!!!

Repeating the same thing

Was the only Larry Winget book I read I would say it was good should I say OK however I have listen to more of them now and other than Grow a Pair... you hear the same thing over and over and over pretty much I think I heard a couple new story if I remember correctly. What the guy that is correct people she was clever at fiveorfour so I can change my subject matter now. Just my opinion, which I have a right to opine.

Where's Larry?

A waste of time. I have purchased and listened to many of Larry Winget's Audiobooks. However, this one is missing the essential component of a Larry Winget Audio book. That is Larry's goofy redneck voice that assures you that if this idiot can make it, then everything is going to be all right.
However, If I was Larry I wouldn't read this book either, because it doesn't seem like his best work. Usually Larry is an action oriented Author calling us to action. Here he resorts to random thoughts and critiques on others people religious views that reveals Larry was just out of his depth. He also contradicts some of his advice in other books. In many ways this didn't seem like a coherent book as a random collection of saying from other self help books. It's not very original and not the level of work I expect from Larry.

avoid this book

I couldn't believe how dull and useless this recording was. No insights here whatsoever.

Author Should Have Read It

If you like this author, listen to this book first before his next one titled "It's Called Work For A Reason". The author, Winget, reads the other one himself, and for this material to sink in, it needs a powerful narrator such as himself. The Shut Up book is read by someone else and it just doesn't have the same impact. So, if you listen to the other book first, you will be highly disappointed. They should rerecord this book with Winget doing the audio. This is a much better read than audio version as a result.

Do yourself a favor and skip this book!

What a bunch of useless drivel! Anything worthwhile in this book is sandwiched between his opinionated ranting about what HE believes about God, family, relationships, church, etc.

Ironically, he whines throughout most of the book about why ALL OTHER people are wrong and HE is right. He continually tells you why he doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks of him because you (and just about everyone else) are wrong and HE is right.

Do yourself a favor and read Stephen Covey, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar, Jim Collins or any one of the dozens of authors who really have something to offer.
