SciFi/Fantasy and Classics to History, Adventure and Memoirs to Social Commentary—I love and listen to it all!
"You are sacred ground." "Who are you?" "Forget every 'I' that you think you are." There are multitudes of pithy little statements (Wait! That sounds like I'm making light of them when actually I appreciate the hell out of their conciseness and how they made a difference when I heard them) like these throughout this audiobook that highlight Holden's lessons. Remember them, and you'll do well because this is a very thought-provoking, emotionally evocative work. Each chapter starts with a story of a client or comes from his own personal experience and expands to give the listener meaning. There are workaholics, sufferers of chronic fatigue, people attached to suffering or drama (and a truly painful story of a young man who developed agoraphobia after someone "shot" him. What a harrowing experience), and all of them become wonderful, wonderful lessons for us all in Holden's hands.
What keeps "Shift Happens" from being a 5-star listen is 1) The lessons only skim the surface (which of course they're meant to. Still...), and 2) Ack! The music in between chapters seriously drove me nuts. Granted, I listened to it once in one sitting, then a second time at a slower pace (Did I mention that I'm a mess?).
Whatever. The fact that there are so many little lessons means that there's something for everyone. And self development? Sometimes that just means excessive thinking has to give way to living with love, yes?
Robert Holden has a wonderful way of putting over his message, both with an easy to listen to voice and with some great ways of explaining it through stories of his own experiences with clients. It is so easy to listen to with many pretty funny moments.
I have listened to this book umpteen times, and every time, I gain something more. I can't think of one person I know who could not gain something by listening to this book.
Having the author read his or her own book give so much more - not only do you get wise words, but with the voice, you get the passion, power, energy and enthusiasm with the message.
Do not miss out on a life changing chance.
Peace n love.
The author's voice and the way he delivered the book in easy to understand chapters.
The unreasonable laughter one!!
To remember to live in the moment, in the now.
Anyone who listens to this book will not view their life the same way!! It is the way to create a tremendously positive shift in one's life.
I love the stories and most importantly the way to incorporate each concept easily into your life.
I can do this!
Great messages, but hard to sit through what felt like lists upon lists, do this not that, do that not this, hard to stay focused on that and it happened in most chapters. also while the messages are good, there isn't much practical, just philosophy. no big aha moments. just ok
This was a great book, highly recommend. It had new, easily identifiable, and practical information about how to shed our skin of the past to awaken into a new and improved version of ourselves. My birthday was yesterday, and in this upcoming year, I intend will live life with naivety and wonder, and to stop replay old hurts from yesteryear in my mind. I feel this concept will change my life, and I'm excited to see the shift that happens in me! Thanks
At first I thought this was another "self help" book, but it is so much more. It is a book that shows you You have the power already to heal, to be happy, to see everything with new eyes. All I can say is, I am grateful.
Lets Settle That Dispute
As a 65 year old man this book has opened my heart to feel, touch, and more importantly to Love.
Robert Holden is amazing in how he teaches you through the stories he shares. Listening to his voice is so soothing. It is as if he is there with me. I felt his presence, strange to say. This is an excellent audio book to gain perspective on life and be reminded to be authentic myself.
I like the stories and that they are over 55 chapters so I can go back and listen to topics easily. Very easy to listen to. Very powerful message easily explained thru stories.
I am my thoughts! So simple, yet so powerful. Its life changing and has affected the way that I see everything. This audible books brings all the other self development books together. Its the same message but Robert makes it so clear. i.e. Think and Grow Rich, The Secret, How to win friends and Influence people. All these great books use this same premise but none so clear as this book. This is my first review on Audible.com.
believe in Origami fox - xx

eliminates 95% of the perspiration and frustration that life throws at you ................
Would highly recommend.
"Boring unhelpful book"
Narration not good his goody goody smarmy voice was really off putting, stories he talks about have no context, no practical advice most of it sound like a sermon way to much talking about God. Sent book back. Will not be buying anything from this author again.
"l am inspired by..."
This book is a treasure trove of joy and diamonds. Robert Holden's comely voice guides the reader to places that once perturbed the individual. His delivery is calming and honest. I was suffused with light. This book is a must listen for all. We can never have too much happiness. His stories are full of richness and actuality.
I was sad when it ended and overjoyed that l will return to listen again and again.
I am inspired by...joy and being me here and now.
