    "Bible-based teaching w/humor"

Joyce delivers again with this book. Her style of communicating is clear and down-to-earth dotted with humor. She quotes scripture ofen to support her teaching and draws from her own life experiences. This is a great book.

"Excellent book by a truly inspired person."

Joyce Meyer is, in my view, the most inspired and relevant Christian author alive today. I have read four of her books so far, and I consider each very rewarding, and potentially life-changing. If you want to truly know how to walk closely with God, and live a rich Christian life, read this or any one of Joyce's books. I have also enjoyed "How to Hear from God", "Knowing God Intimately" and "In Pursuit of Patience", all of which are available on Audible. Joyce, if you are reading this, may God bless you, for you have been a blessing from God for me.

    "Immediately Uplifting!"

The first thing you can do to increase your joy is listen to this book. Joyce has struggled through all the joy-stealers and broken through to joy! It's great to hear someone tell her story in her own words and her own voice. She is real enough to give the rest of us hope. God really does want you to rejoice in Him always and Joyce will help you eradicate the enemy lies that make you miserable. Listen whenever you need a spiritual upper!

"Let it go, for your own sake! - Marvelous"
Would you consider the audio edition of Seven Things That Steal Your Joy to be better than the print version?

    yes.

What did you like best about this story?

The honestly with which it is presented.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    yes.

    Any additional comments?

If you don't want it to grow, (bitterness, unforgiveness, self loathing, envy, greed) stop nursing it. This book is about things that steal your joy and how we let it happen. Joyce states clearly some of our bad habits, why we do them, and how they prevent you from enjoying the true happiness Christ came here to give you. Christ said, "I came so that you could enjoy life." And Joyce is saying the same thing. However Joyce explains how allowing these things to fester in us prevents us from having a close personal relationship with God. She backs it up with sound biblical teachings (yes, I read my bible regularly). Then she tells you how you can start to make positive changes in your life that lead to life long happiness in a Christ filled life.

I also suggest Battlefield of the Mind for those who are serious about applying life changing principles that lead to long lasting happiness. Prayer isn't enough. You have to prune your life of bad habits and get connected to God. I have an amazing life now as a result of applying principles I've read in this and her other books. I can honestly say I have reached a level of peace that I've never felt before, and frankly I want more of it in my life. Good luck to you and God bless.

    "Too bible based!"

I love and believe in God, however, I am intelligent enough to know the bible is full of inaccuracies and contradictory statements (as well as some uplifting and wonderful ones also). Because of this I look for more universal truths and more open mindedness towards other religions and beliefs. To me this was too intimately tied to the bible and just not open minded enough.

Perhaps the worst part was her frequent references to the "Devil," and how to overcome him! As if there really is such a fictitious character. The devil referred to in the bible is a 'straw man,' or a metaphor for the bad things people do. There is no Actual being that is the devil. A long and thoughtful meditation on this even without reference to the many other revealed works and sayings of God (as can be found in most other religions' sacred books) will reveal this to you, as, if God is everything, then the 'devil' must also be a part of God. Therefore the devil is an aspect of God that may be tempting you, in order to help you build strength and charaacter. This book is not deeply spiritual and does not reflect that, but seems to fall into the relatively elementary trap of thinking the devil is a real being!

Read the Bhagavad Gita and see what Krishna said, read about Buddha's life and his sayings, and you will realize that the one and the same God repeatedly manifests on Earth in various forms and with slightly different messages, depending on people's development at the time, but He always gives the same loving message.

So, the bottom line is, if you are a standard American christian, you will probably like this book, but for intellectuals, Buddhists, Hindu's, Muslims, Bahai's, and those with more knowledge of the true depths of spiritual knowledge (such as mystics and sufi's) this book may prove quite frustrating or impossible to listen to after too many references to imaginary characters like the 'devil!'
