Audie Award Nominee, Inspirational Nonfiction, 2013

Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife, Grace, talk about sex and marriage in down-to-earth terms, hitting issues other Christian books won't. While a wonderful wedding day is important, it's the last day of marriage that really counts. Will the last day of your marriage come prematurely through divorce? Will it be filled with regrets as you sit at the funeral of your spouse? Or, by God's grace, will the last day be a time to rejoice in the life you lived together? Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife, Grace, want you to finish well on the last day. They share private and painful issues that damaged their own marriage - including his introduction to pornography in elementary school and her abuse as a teenager at the hands of a boyfriend - and how they overcame them to experience healing and joy with each other again. Together they tackle the tough issues, such as:

  • Should I confess my pre-marital sexual sin to my spouse?
  • Is it okay to have a "work husband/wife"
  • Can I say no to sex when I really do have a headache?
  • What does the Bible say about masturbation and oral sex?

From fun date night tips to the most tricky "can we do that?" sex questions, Mark and Grace share practical help and hope with people just like them - who entered marriage a complete mess - or who are planning to be married someday and want to avoid some sticky pitfalls.

An Honest Look at Marriage

What made the experience of listening to Real Marriage the most enjoyable?

This book dares to engage the real issues in marriage. It talks openly about friendship, sex, and priorities.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Books written for Christian audiences don't often address the real questions people have - this book goes straight after the hard issues.

This is for Real Marriages!

Any additional comments?

The content is relevant and useful in a real marriage (as the title indicates). There are many hard questions answered and much need clairity for the Christian couple. I am a Christian woman married to a Non-Christian man (I was saved after we were married) and there has been a great deal of confusion for me on how to proceed with my marriage and keep it faithfully intact. I have taken some of the content and applied it practically to my marriage and have already felt a shift in both my attitude and that of my husband. Thank you Mark and Grace for allowing us an intimate look into what a Christian marriage should look like and how it should function; I would recommend this book to singles, newly married, and people who have been married for a long time but have never truly understood how to run their marriage biblically, this has been a great help to me and I am certain it can be a great help to thousands of other struggling couples!

Very real!

The Driscolls share things that couples would not normally share. They are very open and transparent!

Love how real they are!

I loved this book I’ve listened to it several times . Explains and helps guide between being a Christian couple and being a human. I just wish pastor mark and grace had narrated the book.

Bold & adventurous yet solidly rooted in scripture

Loved the book.
Author not shy to tackle issues that most christian writers won't touch, especially on the matter of sex.
Easy to listen.

Liberating, but somewhat not exactly helpful

What did you like best about Real Marriage? What did you like least?

I liked the list of liberating facts that couples can indulge in without guilt, however there is no real help for problems if the marriage is in serious trouble with how to fix addictions to sexual problems.

What do you think your next listen will be?

self help on marriage, since the church makes people feel like they can not get real help

Do you think Real Marriage needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

yes it needs lists of places for retreat and marriage couseling

Any additional comments?

I am glad the candid truth about thier past, but what about the recovery of serious addictions to porn and sex out of marriage?
