Critic reviews

"A classic of self-help... Maltz was a plastic surgeon who ultimately recommended changing our attitudes towards ourselves, rather than our appearances. Presenting positive attitude as a means for change, Maltz's teaching has the ring of common sense. Testimonials and stories are interspersed with advice from Maltz. Techniques for relaxation and visualization are also covered. Archival recordings of Maltz's talks are interspersed with moderators' instructions. Maltz's speeches are particularly enjoyable. His humor and straightforward approach are refreshing." (AudioFile magazine)

MALTZ SPEAKS FROM THE BEYOND or THE ZEN OF GOLF

Dan Kennedy kind of steps over the line here, writing from Maltz's point of view, freely wielding the opinion of the long deceased plastic surgeon and self-help guru on matters such as Waterworld and Tiger Woods. Not to mention that the golf metaphors are truly astounding in volume for a book not actually about golf. I don't want to entirely torch the thing--the message is truly a great one--but, I would have preferred the original. Door-to-door salesmen references and all.

Simply AMAZING!!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this audiobook because it changed how I viewed myself, which in turned changed how I viewed my world and all of the obstacles that I have faced, and will face.

What did you like best about this story?

The contents are based upon common sense principles that we all have heard growing up, but is presented in such a way that you can connect all of the information into a tangible outline for your personal life and situations.

What does Paul Michael bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

A conversational yet educational tone.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The realization that all of our actions and thought derive from what we believe about ourselves, and that the two go hand in hand and can not be separated.

Any additional comments?

I found out about this book by reading Dan S. Kennedy's No B.S. Books. I was reluctant to read it because of the books title. I am glad that I did not judge this book by it's cover. Before reading this book, I thought that Dan Kennedy's books had profoundly changed my life, but now I see that Dan was employing the Psycho Cybernetics principles :)

P.S. I never, EVER right reviews, for anything! No matter how much I liked it. So for me to sit down and type this review is a testament to the powerful teachings of this book!!!!!!

Should be retitled Psycho-Golf-a-netics

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would tell someone to get the original version of this book. Why? Because this version was WAY too much about golf. I thought this was going to give some new refined techniques from the old book. But it talked and talked and talked about golf. I'm not a golfer, I was very disappointed. I'm glad that is was only a credit that I used instead of giving up 79$ for this when Nightingale-Conant had it available only on CD.

What was most disappointing about Maxwell Maltz and Dan Kennedy ’s story?

Nothing disappointing about Mr. Maltz, but what Dan Kennedy did to this book, I didn't care for. Added a whole bunch of stories to sell the method and the method could have been focused on in about 2 chapters.

Which character – as performed by Paul Michael – was your favorite?

Paul just narrated the entire thing, there were no characters, this is a non-fiction course. Paul has a great voice, very soothing to listen too and help you assimilate information well.

Did Psycho-Cybernetics: Updated and Revised inspire you to do anything?

To go get the original version and read it!!!

unfair

After reading the revised version with the boring additions, but amazing book by Dr Maltz, I bought the expensive audiobook. I was wondering if I got different book at first. I opened the book while hearing the audio. But yet to find more unfair, confusing and mediocre additions to the great work of a great doctor. Very sad. I appreciate if Dan Kennedy explain why. ..

Good information, but a bit long and dry

Would you listen to Psycho-Cybernetics: Updated and Revised again? Why?

No. It was good information, but an abridged version is definitely needed. They could have conveyed the same info in half the time. Most of the time, I ran the audio at 1.5x or 2x.

Any additional comments?

Please come out with and abridged version and include some 'cliff notes' with the audio book to study later.

Prepare your mind for your desired future

I have read a lot of personal development books from Orison Swett Marden, Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Paul J. Meyer to Jack Canfield and Dr. Maxwell Maltz has become one of my favorites! All self help books will work as long as you are willing to do the work. Psycho-Cybernetics has helped me to develop the "self-image" I have been lacking. This book is long, but very much worth the investment of time necessary. I highly recommend this book to those who have a strong desire to change and excel both personally and professionally.
