This is one of the most important and best-presented books I've ever listened to. It tells what parents, children and especially young women need to know to keep from becoming victims of violent crime. I've been in law enforcement for a long time, and much was eye-opening to me. The only drawback is that it is severely abridged, and there is no unabridged version.
Protecting the gift picks up where "Gift of Fear" leaves off. It is full of insights into keeping your child (as well as yourself) safe. What he says makes so much sense - I have already recommended it to several friends, and will continue to do so! Thank you for an amazing work!
Yes, with the caveat that De Becker goes on an anti-gun rant that is truly reprehensible at this point. The information is quite good and likely to prove helpful to anyone who pays attention.
Pretty sure I just answered this same question in the item above.
See item1 above. Great information and expertise, lose the political perspective.
I want everyone I know and everyone i don't know to read this book! the information is so valuable, even if it makes you think about things you don't want to .
Educator, Learner, Reader.
This book gives very applicable advice for protecting yourself and your children against violence. The statistics on violence paired with anecdotal stories are eye opening.
Waaaa..... An eye opener !! I was raised by a cop but this book was another precaution list to put into action. It should be a course taught in high school as the author mentioned. Wish the author had more books. Get the audiobook It is much easier to refer to it when needed. The author also has template letters. Amazing author !! Heart breaker stories but sadly it is the world we live in.
This is a GREAT book... you just have to get past a nauseating, hypocritical, factually incorrect, anti-gun rant. It's a shame to have a big, fat, illogical red mark right across such a fantastic work, and I'm sure it will make others question De Becker's credibility, as it did me, when they hear something that has been proven factually incorrect as we hear in his long rant on the scariness of guns. Worse yet are those who DON'T know the facts about the gun control argument and take De Becker's lies and errors as truth. I do hope listeners are able to pick the wheat from the chaff as there is some great information here which is not available in many other (audio)books and this is such an important topic.
