Publisher's summary

Meditation - the technique of mental focusing for enhanced awareness and self-mastery - offers deep and lasting benefits for mental functioning and emotional health, as well as for physical health and well-being.

This practice is closely related to "mindfulness," which Professor Muesse defines as "a deliberate way of paying attention to what is occurring within oneself as it is happening. It is the process of attentively observing your experience as it unfolds, without judgment or evaluation."

"Meditation," he adds, "refers to certain exercises that can be used to enlarge and refine mindfulness." Meditation cultivates mindfulness by training you to develop deep attention to the present moment, allowing the mind to become settled and centered. These 24 detailed lectures teach you the principles and techniques of sitting meditation, the related practice of walking meditation, and the highly beneficial use of meditative awareness in many important activities, including eating and driving. You will also learn how to use the skills of meditation in working with thoughts and emotional states, in deepening sensory awareness of the body, and in becoming deeply attentive to the operation of your mind.

You'll come away with a solid basis for your own meditation practice and for bringing meditation's remarkable and empowering benefits to every aspect of your life.

Too religious

this could've been a great source of Information but the author is set completely in their own religion and spiritual beliefs which feels like is trying to pull you into them.

Avoid this boring book

The Buddha says life is pain. By avoiding this heartsore boring book you can make your life a lot less painful. This book could have been so interesting if the writer spent 20min doing actual research into the subject.

A college course lecture

This 12+hour course in Mindfulness could have been done in two hours. It sounds like a college professor reading from old lecture notes — and there’s even canned applause at the end of each class. The information is useful, but very repetitive; the course content feels padded.

Great book if you have trouble falling asleep

Maybe I like things straight to the point. This is so much like a college elective on mindfulness I expected a test at the end. The first three chapters seems so repetitive but I decided to stick with it. The narrator was so monotone and it’s not only him that’s the worst about the book. The content is pointless. Little stories about Buddha and the proper type of pillow to sit on is ridiculous. I skipped ahead thinking maybe the beginning is for people who want a lot of info and that later the practice and real info begins. It doesn’t and it’s a waste of time throughout.

Mindfulness

If you are a purpose driven person. Who enjoys setting goals and being successful. This book isn't for you. It will get you no where fast. I rated this poorly because he teaches conflicting ideologies.

Mostly general common sense information

Mostly general common sense information with no direct connection to meditation. Too many words with little insights.
