Normal?

Who wants to be that?

When Kelly Cutrone’s first book, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside, was first published, young people flocked to this new voice - finally, someone was telling it like it is, in language they spoke. It quickly became a New York Times bestseller, and fashion publicist Kelly Cutrone became more than a personality, she became a beloved guru, mentor, and fairy godmother.

Now she’s back with another no-holds-barred book to awaken our souls and kick our asses into gear. With Normal Gets You Nowhere, she invites us to get our freak on. History is full of successful, world-changing people who did not fit in. Think Nelson Mandela, Joan of Arc, Eleanor Roosevelt, Amelia Earhart, John Lennon, and Rosa Parks. Instead of changing themselves to accommodate the status quo or what others thought they should be, these people hung a light on their differences - and changed humanity in the process.

“I know you don’t feel normal, so why are you trying to act it and prove to everyone you are?” Cutrone says. So much of what we say or don’t say, and what we do or don’t do, is dictated by what others have told us, or what people may think of us. This is not how we should be living, by measuring ourselves against the mundane.

An invitation to rethink who you are, what you value, and what you want from life, Normal Gets You Nowhere goes beyond how to reinvent yourself and create your own brand, and investigates what it means to live in this world as a tuned-in, caring individual with a passion for making a difference. There’s already an army of super talented uberfreaks changing the world–isn’t it time you joined it time you joined them?

What did you love best about Normal Gets You Nowhere?

I love the honesty of the content and the passion of the author. I could completely identify with everything she had to say. Maybe that's why I find some reviews shocking. If you are a traditionalist, if you think sex is something that should only happen after marriage or you take serious offense to hearing the F word I can't imagine you are going to be open to what Kelly has to share. This book is about being who you are, finding your truth and being tough when others (see previous reviews) tell you that you aren't normal, because you have different ideas... like NOT celebrating holidays that YOU find meaningless.

"You are already nowhere when you read this crap."

A waste of time and money. Sorry. I hate to be just normal but not this kind of anti normal. It will certainly get you nowhere.

    "Loved it & great insight!!"

Loved it due to the fact I am now 40 and I seem to relate to her great. She has a great life story , I can slip away and listen like if I had her life minus the three kids I had!! Love them but her characteristics of her are again "awesome"!

    "Blunt and nothing remotely normal"

Kelly Cutrone has a voice and this book is about her telling us about her voice so we can find ours. It's her telling us about her religion so we can sit up and look deep into ours. It's about her life so we can examine ours. It's about accepting that normal isn't for everyone and when you dance to the rhythm of your own drum, it will take you to some fucking amazing places.

    "Kween Kelly!"

So amazing to hear the true emotion behind the authors words by having it read by the author! This book is honest and a real kick in the ass for a 21 year old wandering soul like myself.

    "Love Kelly!"

Maybe I'm partially biased because she is a Scorpio, same as me, but this book helped me realized there maybe some hope in the world. Being from the south and migrating to NY in my late twenties was a culture shock to say the least. Kelly has a chapter that discusses her relationship with her guru that has given out 30 million hugs in her lifetime. I damn near burst out in tears on the F train. We are all connected. We must all feel each other and each thing. Being hurt can eventually lead to healing if there is humility and patience for others and yourself. I recommend this book to all women. It's a quick and easy read. Bonus points for Kelly narrating her audiobook.

"Hm... the content don't sync with the title"
What disappointed you about Normal Gets You Nowhere?

I don't think the content sync with the title. I was expecting something more...hm...different and daring... I couldn't even finish the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kelly Cutrone’s performances?

Her performance was ok, acceptable...if she is the author...

    Any additional comments?

Was quite boring overall and I find her much sharper on TV, when she gives comments and advices.

"Who knew Kell on Earth was a Yogi"

i know that I will definitely mention this book to those friends who loved her no nonsense, tough love approach to life and business on Bravo's "Kell on Earth." She is pretty fierce and I like that about her, although come to think of it - I'm probably too normal for her and she's probably too intense for me....I consider myself spiritual and this book felt a little preachy at times. Despite that, this was an audio that I finished in 1 day. It is interesting and Kelly Cutrone is anything but boring. I'm glad I listened to it. There are some worthy bits to this audio and other bits that are just hard to buy into. My last comment is that Kelly Cutrone has now peaked my interest in Eleanor Roosevelt.
