Publisher's summary

Most people think success comes from good luck or enormous talent, but many successful people achieve their accomplishments in a simpler way: through self-discipline. Brian Tracy knows this firsthand. He didn’t graduate from high school, and after working for a few years as a laborer, he realized he had limited skills and a limited future. But through the power of self-discipline, he changed his life, achieving success in sales and marketing, investing, real-estate development, and management consulting. He has consulted to more than 1,000 companies, given motivational speeches and seminars to more than four million people in 40 countries, and written 45 books.

No Excuses! shows you how you can achieve success in all three major areas of your life:

  • Your personal goals: self-discipline can help you realize that you are responsible for your success and shows you how persistence really does pay off.
  • Your business and money goals: self-discipline can make you a better leader and a better manager, help you close more sales and make more money, improve your time-management and problem- solving abilities, and make you more effective and successful at work.
  • Your overall happiness: self-discipline can help you be happier, healthier, and more physically fit, and it can help you in your marriage and your relationships with your children and friends.

Each of the 21 chapters in this audiobook shows you how to be more disciplined in one aspect of your life, with end- of-chapter exercises to help you apply the “no excuses” approach to your own life. With these guidelines, you can learn how to be more successful in everything you do—instead of wistfully envying others who you think are just “luckier” than you. A little self-discipline goes a long way...so stop making excuses and listen to this audiobook!

Didn't finish it

I have read and enjoyed other Brian Tracy books, but this one was a disappointment. Rather than offering an insight into how to gain self-discipline (for those of us out there struggling with it), he merely tells you to get on with it. Most people 'know' what they need to do, but don't have the tools to make the shift. This book won't provide you with help to obtain self-discipline. It made me feel inadequate.

Highly Recomended...

This book is spot on!!! I highly recomend this title. I will gift this one to friends & family.
Based on some earlier reviews of this book, a few felt there was nothing new & it's all recycled material. Well that may be true. What's interesting however, is Brian said that in the book... nothing is new. ACTION however, may be what's missing for many. We can listen and read all day but without action what's the point. The best carpenter is useless if he never takes the hammer out of the tool box & drive a nail!

Old School Preacher from Ivory Tower

BT seems to be disconnected with the reality of every day life. If you add up all the "good" advices he provides you, you will need 72 hours a day not 24. Some advices counter each other depends on the context.

How on earth can i wake up two hours earlier every day, got to work an hour sooner, and stay an hour later,...

Even his success stories and examples (that he gives himself credit for) do not add up or make sense.

GREAT CONTACT BORING VOICE

I love Brian Tracey and have many of his books but he is a very boring reader. Brian if your reading this please get someone else to read this. If it had some voice fluctuations and wasn't so monotone it would receive 5 stars.

good information but nothing new

If you have not read any of Brian's other stuff this book is loaded with good practices and insights but there is really nothing new. The material is recycled from his other books and seminars.

Mr. Tracy has succeeded and brings success to the table.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Choose to not make excuses. Get over being intimidated. Make that 100 calls.

Any additional comments?

Audio is great. I can make notes to refer back to, however after I have heard the book, if it is as good as this book, I also like to pick up a hard copy and read it. I can highlight important parts and refer back to them.
Audible is a great way to build a library of good books while you are driving.

Work work work

Tracy's recipe for success? Read an hour each morning something related to your industry. Arrive to work an hour early. Stay an hour late. Read some more about your industry in the evening. Spend money on more tapes and books.

I'm still looking for a self-help motivational book that does not just tell you to be a workaholic. I've seen enough of those types, they often are just used by the real smarties and are no further ahead for it all.

A good reminder, but simplistic

Periodically, it's refreshing to have someone wag their finger at you and scowl, "Focus! Be disciplined! Work harder!" This book is good for that. It sobers you up. Unfortunately, telling me over and over that it takes "tremendous discipline and willpower" to do X, and that I'll be happier if I exert tremendous discipline, doesn't help me understand why some areas of my life (like working out) require little self-discipline, while other areas (like financial planning) are excruciating. I think the book simplistically assumes that the reasoning mind governs actions, and that if you're just disciplined enough, you can do anything. True enough, but the reason you even need to employ discipline in the first place is because you have a natural aversion to the thing that needs to be done. The shortcoming of the book is that does not attempt to understand or address this struggle.

The book made me feel guilty for not being more machine-like. It made me want to apologize for needing nightly sleep. On the other hand, it also made me want to up my game, if for no other reason than the process and exertion of self-discipline is inherently rewarding.

Nothing Profound

I found this audio book to be very motivating... but thats it. I think it would be great for a first time read for someone who wants to change their career and excel in something better like sales. But, like me, if you have read other motivational speaker books, seminars, and some self help books.. you wont find anything new in this book. A lot of it is common sense stuff, and too many catch phrases. Very high level stuff. Also, the naration is very boring, with too much labial sounds and background hiss.
