Let It Go: Forgive So You Can Be Forgiven | [T. D. Jakes]

Let It Go: Forgive So You Can Be Forgiven

Forgive and forget. It should be easy to do—so why don’t we do it? The father who wasn’t always there for us. The mother who punished us. The spouse who betrayed us. The children who will leave us behind. Whoever and whatever the source of hurt, there is always a path to forgiveness. But too often, instead of forgiving, too many of us live with resentments and grudges that keep us stuck, robbing us of joy, peace, and purpose.

Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author T.D. Jakes uses inspiration from the Lord’s Prayer to reveal how the act of forgiving - and learning to be forgiven - can lead you to a more joyful, peaceful, and purposeful life.

Forgive and forget. It should be easy to do - so why don’t we do it? The father who wasn’t always there for us. The mother who punished us. The spouse who betrayed us. The children who will leave us behind. Whoever and whatever the source of hurt, there is always a path to forgiveness. But too often, instead of forgiving, too many of us live with resentments and grudges that keep us stuck, robbing us of joy, peace, and purpose.

In Let It Go, best-selling author and pastor to a flock of millions T.D. Jakes shares the wisdom and guidance necessary to release a lifetime of hurt and anger and move on with the joyful business of living.

Revealing the essential secrets to leading an emotionally vital and spiritually healthy life, Jakes gently teaches the art of forgiveness as a daily practice. In order to practice forgiveness, he explains, we must first learn new styles of conflict resolution and new forms of anger management. To that end, he shows you how to recognize offenses when they come, establish boundaries, encourage purity of heart, develop trust, recover from hurts faster, and forgive ourselves for the rest of our lives. As unconditionally loved children of God, he attests, we are all forgiven. Through grace, we can forgive ourselves and the people around us. In this way, says Jakes, we can live a happier and more fulfilled life.

    "Awesome!"
If you could sum up Let It Go in three words, what would they be?

    A Must Read

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let It Go?

When Bishop Jakes said, "Unforgiveness is like you drinking poision and waiting for the other person to die." That is deep!

What did you learn from Let It Go that you would use in your daily life?

I have learned that no matter how bad the pain is, you have to forgive and let it go so that God can forgive you for your sins and grant you the desires of your heart.

    Any additional comments?

I would like to thank Bishop Jakes so much for this book. After listening to this I realized that it really does not matter what happened in the past and I need to be thankful that I was allowed to get through it. Now that I have gotten through it. I have let it go and God has already rewarded me for it. Thank you again!

    "Worth the listen"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I think it was even though I didn't learn/hear anytihng I didn't already know the re-inforcement of the information was valuable, because this listen put it in the forefront of mmy mind once again.

Would you be willing to try another book from T. D. Jakes? Why or why not?

Bishop Jakes is a dynamic speaker in the pulpit, on stage and his TV presence is phenomal, which is why I was confused about this narration.

I'm not sure I would listen to another Jakes book unless I can sample it first. This was my first and he talked slow and he sounded sad. I shut it off many times for these reasons. I wonder if he was going through something regarding forgiveness and this title brought it all back. I wanted to cry for his sadness.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

his voice was sad and slow I was so glad my phone has a speed feature so I set it to I think 1.5

Could you see Let It Go being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No way, this is strictly a resource book not made for TV.

    "Forgiveness Should Become Second Nature"
If you could sum up Let It Go in three words, what would they be?

    Forgive and Forget

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let It Go?

I like how Bishop Jakes talks about the importance of not being jealous of someone's else's journey and how God has a plan for each one of our lives. The audiobook was a good reminder to hear that opportunity comes often, not just once as we are often taught. We should forgive ourselves, the other party and move forward. If we remain open, we will often be granted a second chance to make things better.

What about T. D. Jakes’s performance did you like?

I like how he incorporated examples from friends, personal experiences and the bible to drive home the point of forgiving not only ourselves but others.

What did you learn from Let It Go that you would use in your daily life?

I never stopped to think about how important it is to apply forgiveness to the people we work with. I usually go home and do my best "to forget about it," not realizing that I'm harboring hurt feelings, anger and resentment; which often not only impact how I interact at work but potentially impacts my personal life. This audiobook has provided new insight on how we should also forgive those we work with, not just family, friends and loved ones.

    Any additional comments?

Bishop Jakes is an awesome teacher!

Yes I would as you get the author's own inflections on the words

What other book might you compare Let It Go to, and why?

Can't compare it. It deals so well with unforgiveness. I experienced a feeling of something being broken off me while going though the book.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

    All of it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No
