That is to be expected since I do not come from the traditional writing world. You will soon learn my story and though I was an overall good student, I was a terrible English student. I know this might sound cliché, but if I can become an established writer, anyone can! More than most people, I understand your concerns, anxieties and questions when it comes to writing. Yes. I've gone back and listened to it again, as well.
I am a professional writer of nonfiction, and have been thinking about writing a book, so this book was part of my research. I have to admit that I had a bit of an arrogant attitude going in... I wasn't convinced that the author could tell me something that I didn't already know. Turns out, he could. There is a lot of very basic information that I think beginning writers would benefit from. But I found that his advice on organizing and planning a book -- such as writing a core outline first, so that you have a definite handle on what your book is about and how you're going to write it -- rang true with me. In criticism, I would say that the author repeats himself occasionally throughout the book. But, then, maybe a beginning writer would benefit from the repetition. Finally, I liked the way he encouraged non-writers to try their hand at the craft, with helpful tips on how to get started. The author definitely has a positive attitude!
The advice in this book was right on the money.
The various case studies were a great way to take the abstract and make it concrete.
Anyone who wants to be inspired to write a book should listen to this one. By the time your done listening you'll be ready to write.
If you are wanting to write that novel you've been meaning to your whole life, this is a great place to start. Lots of information and a way to plan out your prose. If you need a great starter kit, this is it.
Narration is also excellent!
in other words this book gives you a tool box and tells you how to use it. very good nuts and bolts.
This book takes you through the process from start to finish, with excellent direction and practical advice. It filled in so many gaps that I missed when I self-published my first book. When writing a book, in my opinion, there comes a time when the book seems to take on its own life. How to Write a Book ASAP will help you recognize, deal with and appreciate that feeling when your book reaches that critical stage. It is an incredible part of the process.
I have not seen another source that is this inclusive to comapre it to. This audiobook stands alone with straight to the point step by step processes that takes so much of the stress out of planning and executing writing a book.
He is able to keep your attention with intonations and well spoken english. I drive a great deal, so the audio version was my best option.
I have found this book extremely inspiring to get moving. What I really like is the planning processes that it spells out. This has helped me organize and layout my project with clearer focus, providing much more opportunity for creativity and less operational mind clutter.
I will recommend this book/audio recording to anyone endeavoring to write a book that I speak with. This will be the best (and hopefully first) investment you will make in not only your book, but in yourself.
I'm shocked by the good reviews, but maybe this book is their first on the subject. The author admits this is his 3rd book. His first 2 books you never heard of because they have sold few copies, check their poor sales rank on Amazon. This book is filled with amateur writing errors and then he plugs his high priced courses on "writing" constantly. Ever watch American Idol? Would you pay to learn how to sing from a karaoke singer?
It hasn't, I read enough books to know there is always good and bad work, especially now that there is "self publishing", but self publishing and places like CreateSpace, KDL and Audible good for the business overall. Buyers just need to be more careful now.
Hard to tell, he was dealt a bad hand (the book is littered with cliches too). For instance "your book" was said about a thousand times. It seemed it was in every paragraph and sometimes in 3 or 4 sentences in a row. If you combined a drinking game with the phrase you wouldn't get past the first few pages.
Yes, it had an ending and I now have true example of what all the other books on how to write, warned about.
Just a question, will books like this lead to LOTS of 2am karaoke quality books?
