I am a huge fan of How To Win Friends and Influence People, it was a book that changed my life by helping me develop my people handling skills. My disappointment with it however was that the bulk of it was made up of stories and not enough psychological insights or practical advice. How To Have Confidence and Power In Dealing With People however covers the very same topics but does the complete opposite. It provides a very thorough explanation on what the strategies are and why they work rather than making a point and merely using an anecdote back it up. So if you feel the same way as me about HTWFAIP then you're going to love this one.
Software developer (Java, Ruby on Rails, Android) and all-around computer nerd, as well as an avid reader and listener of intercommunication- and psychology-related books. Not much for fiction, but I love cool non-fiction!
This is a good book and contains many good concepts and techniques. The narration meets expectations. All-in-all it's worth the buy, but the ideas and theory could have been elaborated on a little bit more; the listen was over in no time at all, which is why it lacks the fifth star for me. I'm not into "filler content" just for the sake of length, but am convinced that more metaphorical, exemplary stories are in order so that one could teach the *unconscious* the material contained within, not just the conscious mind.
If you're considering buying the book, go ahead and do it. You can listen to it easily in one afternoon and glean quite a bit of information from it. You will probably want to listen more than once to ingrain the information into your knowledge and habits.
