I really enjoyed both the content and narration of this audiobook. Many of my particular problems were addressed and useful suggestions were offered for those problems. I have been struggling with my dating life for years and have never figured out why. There is absolutely nothing about me to scare anyone off, yet I find myself dateless most often. This book has given me the courage to go out there and just get moving. Dating doesn't seem as threatening and heavy as it did to me last week. What I learned from this book is worth at least ten times what I paid for it!
I found this audiobook really interesting and helpful. I especially liked the second half of the book, as this part deals with issues (conscious and otherwise) that might be keeping you back from being successful in relationships. I enjoyed the narration - the author has a very interesting voice which (apart from the content) kept me glued to my laptop!
Audible's web page had one copy it stated it was unabridged, so I purchased it. Then realizing it was an abridged copy, I had to buy another copy that stated it was unabridged. I am of the opinion that when my trial period ends I will more than likely quit and not return.
This book is easy to listen to and understand without going back to look things up, however, that is me and my personality. I think this is a great book if you are entertaining the idea of internet dating or any other kind but especially internet. The interesting part was how it turns it around to also include looking at the inside of you and whether you are ready to be dating the person you've decided you want and it provides different answers to the different scenarios that I had never heard of before. Very good and very helpful.
Henry Cloud has got it going on. What a wonderful, insightful look into why today's relationships implode on themselves, how to change all that, and find (yes) a relationship worth keeping.
Dr. Cloud reads the book himself, which gives it powerful energy. He has the most lovely southern accent which in itself is a joy.
If you are looking to date like the world dates then I think this is a great instruction book. However, if you are a Christian and seeking to date in a way that places full trust in the Lord then this is a rather unBiblical way to approach dating. He throws in a couple of Scripture verses out of context, but none of this book is founded on a Biblical basis. (for the record I don't agree with Josh Harris' approach either). If you are a Christian and want to learn the Biblical way to approach dating I highly recommend "The Book of Romance" by Tommy Nelson. It's an exposition of Song of Solomon. I find it to be highly encouraging and instructional. Unfortunately audible does not have it, you can order the CD's at www.songofsolomon.com
For the record, I've read a couple of Dr. Cloud's other books (he wrote in conjunction with Dr. Townsend) and I found them to be very good. I recommend them to others and study them myself. However, I find this book to be very off base in it's teaching.
Perhaps include content worth consuming. I'm always skeptical about self-improvement books that have an example of a single person doing a single thing, and getting incredible results. This book is full of them.
The Author's tone and pacing was decent.
If you've read garbage like the Game or "Pick-up Artist" techniques, this book isn't much different. There's a Christian slant to give it a thin layer of credibility, but even that gets trashed within the book in the section on Christians dating non-Christians.Like other dating books, the message here is: "The Key to Dating is a Numbers Game. Forget your values. Forget your gut. Just go after numbers!!" Total Trash.
