Publisher's summary

Mignon Fogarty, a.k.a. Grammar Girl, is determined to wipe out bad grammar—but she's also determined to make the process as painless as possible. One year ago, she created a weekly podcast to tackle some of the most common mistakes people make while communicating. More than seven million episodes have now been downloaded, and Mignon has dispensed grammar tips on Oprah and appeared on the pages of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.

With the trademark wit, warmth, and approachability that the podcasts are known for, Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing covers the grammar rules and word choice guidelines that can confound even the best writers. From "between vs. among" and "although vs. while" to comma splices and misplaced modifiers, Mignon offers memory tricks and clear explanations that will help listeners recall and apply those troublesome grammar rules. Chock full of tips on style, business writing, and effective e-mailing, Grammar Girl's latest audiobook should be heard by every communicator.

Great

In audible, I felt at times relating to the tips was a bit more complicated. Still, loved the book, the narration and the detailed tips!

So, sooo focused on what matters...

Where does Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

4/5. The book is informative; I found it useful, but it certainly didn't cross the gate to my top 10.

What other book might you compare Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing to and why?

Slips of Speech (by John H. Bechtel). The approach, the tone, and the depth of their respective contents set both books on an island of handy grammar/usage/style books.

Which scene was your favorite?

I particularly loved the Dirty Words section, although this may be more connected to the shape of my knowledge before reading the book than to the content itself.

Any additional comments?

Sometimes you need to gain actionable and practical understanding of a subject. When that happens, you often have to swim your way to knowledge across seas of ponderous reference material or too good books written by know-it-all and eager-to-say-it-all writers.

This book has been written to serve as a reference in daily situations, without degrading content quality. It will make you aware of errors you've been overlooking and teach you in a down-to-earth manner to walk your way out of the grammar shame land. I have learned a ton of rules, debunked some spurious ones, and reinforced many more. Other than a few short sections on writing, which I found extraneous, this was a substantial read throughout.

Its accessible pace made it easy to digest and I'm sure I'll listen to it several more times to make it stick. Being read by the author, the book was performed with additional insight that would have otherwise prominently lacked for a book on grammar.

READ DONT LISTEN

What would have made Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing better?

Horrible mistake to purchase this book. Who wants to listen to grammer tips for several hours. No way to refrence back as needed.

What was most disappointing about Mignon Fogarty’s story?

Author should leave her politics out of her writing. This was supposed to be a grammer book.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The rules are useful and author does a good job of presenting the topics in an interesting way.
