Publisher's Summary

In addition to presenting Sean Stephenson's unbelievable life story, Get Off Your "But" offers anyone who needs to conquer fears and insecurities a hands-on guide for overcoming the forces of negativity and self-sabotage. Sean - a successful psychotherapist - shows what it takes to overcome the big bumps in the road, eliminate excuses, end insecurities, and ultimately stand up for happiness and success in life.

As Sean explains, anyone can fall victim to the "Buts":

  • "But" Fears (BUT what if I fail...)
  • "But" Insecurities (BUT I'm not good enough...)
  • "But" Excuses (BUT there's no time...)

Get Off Your "But" offers a practical guide for putting fear behind you and building the inner resources to become self-confident at work and at home. It's time to get off your "but" and start leading the life you dream.

      "Invaluable Life Wisdom"
Where does Get Off Your 'But' rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best books I've listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

      Sean!

What about Sean Stephenson’s performance did you like?

Sean has a great speaking voice and excellent delivery-not surprising given his extensive public speaking experience.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire book was packed with moving anecdotes, but my favorite was the final chapter, in which the choice of "cause vs. effect" was presented.

Would you listen to Get Off Your 'But' again? Why?

I would listen to this book again just to reabsorb all the meaningful lessons and uplifting stories. There are many bits of great advice one would benefit from hearing again and again.

What about Sean Stephenson’s performance did you like?

Performed by the author, he knows how to tell his story best.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Get Off Your 'But'?

I bought this book to listen casually to, as in I didn't seek it out because I felt I NEEDED help. But even for the casual listener, there are many lessons in positive thinking that I've applied most days after I read this. I even spread it to others around me stuck in their own dark thoughts and it's helped them as well. It's made the would around me a little brighter.

      Any additional comments?

Great book, a little cheesy at times, but helpful and positive nonetheless.

      "Inspirational, but not applicable"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who enjoy stories of personal hardship

Has Get Off Your 'But' turned you off from other books in this genre?

The author doesn't quite make up his mind whether he wants to book to be a tear jerker, or a self-help volume. The advice he gives is of the type "I think that's how I did it, so it must help you, too". And sorry, it's naive.

How could the performance have been better?

A bit more passion in delivery

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

      Disinterest

      Any additional comments?

I appreciate the tremendous hardships the author has overcome by being saddled with brittle bone disease. But in the end, his whole story and every piece of advice goes back to this one, very personal, aspect of his story which just doesn't apply to me.

      "Surprisingly Enjoyable!"
      Any additional comments?

This book helped me get out of a minor depression I was experiencing due to a painful medical issue. Some times I find motivational speakers annoying, but, for me, he was very compassionate, realistic, nonjudgmental, and even fun in his point of view and advice. I also really enjoyed his warm, cheerful voice, and I'm glad he didn't hire a different reader as one reviewer suggested. It wouldn't have been as powerful and experience without Sean's actual voice. Thank you Sean, for your honesty, openness and wisdom!

      "A n insightful, helpful book"

I thoroughly enjoyed Sean's book. He makes the audiobook entertaining while he narrates it. I recommend the audiobook for an overview, motivation and inspiration. I recommend the ebook as well in order to complete some of the exercises that Sean prescribes.
