Publisher's summary

This workshop, recorded live in Chicago, Illinois, focuses on how to find your life's mission, or "Sacred Contract." By coming to know your mission, you can live your life in a way that makes best use of your energy. Finding out where you invest your energetic currency can show you how to manage your power as opposed to being managed by it. When you're working well with your energy, you're also making the best expression of it and living in accord with your Sacred Contract.

Caroline Myss shows you how to discover your archetypal patterns, both symbolically and literally, and how to find the four archetypes we all share and the eight that are uniquely ours. By using these patterns, she teaches you how to use the "Archetypal Wheel" as an intuitive method to interpret the behind-the-scenes patterns of your life, revealing that your experiences and relationships to be spiritual dramas that are filled with opportunities for personal transformation.

Visual required

Although I respect Caroline Myss work tremendously, I found this very difficult to follow. This presentation is a lecture and the author is demonstrating to the audience using illustrated visual charts. These representations are not described in any detail to allow the listener to grasp the point being made. For instance, the author refers to a wheel, which is important to the discussion, but doesn't describe it or explain what is within its bands for the point she is making. Also, the author points out related elements/differences that are said, "here" and "here," or makes comparisons to "this and this." This title would do better as a printed book with illustrations because there are not many reference points.

What Carolyn Missed

I have heard so many good things about Carolyn Myss. Unfortuntly I didn't hear a whole lot during this particular workshop. And that is really what it is, it is a workshop on the full content of "Finding Your Sacred Contract." Not having read the book, I felt like I really missed the "meat" of the book. Dr. Myss briefly touches or skips over completely quite a bit of the core principles of her teachings. For the workshop I suspect that is fine, the folks there have paid the ticket price to reinforce what they ahve alreay read/studied. Not always the case with the listener. One of the reviewers said that this is a great introduction to her work. I would have to say that it might be a lovely compliment to her work but I don't think it does justice as an introduction.
During the workshop Dr. Myss uses visuals to communicate to her audience. To the listener, that is about as helpful as beauty contest over the radio.
I will say that the listen was interesting and entertaining. The pace was fast. I will purchase the physical book.

Needs visuals

Ditto from the other reviewer that wrote that visuals were needed. Caroline does not describe the chart she is pointing to, so you cannot visualize the chart. However, I think that this lecture is a good introduction to her book and her work.

One of my favorite

I know they couldn't see the charts she was demonstrating, but I think she presents best in front of an audience. A great listen for those who are already familar with her work...chakras - energy - etc.

Interesting concepts; a little too Buddhist for me

I got something out of the content as it offers some ideas/techniques and concepts for finding the "center" for your reality. I'm not into some of the spiritual aspects that the author believes (spiritual reading for instance); yet there were some things to take out of the material.

I agree with some of the other reviews; this lecture could have used visuals (or the lecturer could have more clearly used words to laying the discussed "archetypes"). In the end I felt like, because in particular the archetypes described were not clearly laid out, that it was an infomercial for the author's books. In that respect, I was disappointed. I feel that the material should have been more clearly laid out in the lecture format and if we like the content enough, we'd be drawn to further content (in the author's books).

There was something to be gained from the material, but I can't help but thing there are better things out there that are better as a stand alone product.

Disappointed

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If it was a reading of the actual book.

What was most disappointing about Caroline Myss’s story?

This really isn't a reading of the book, as advertised. This is a recording of the author giving a talk and answering audience questions.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Finding Your Sacred Contract?

The audience.

Message Important: Messenger Not So Much

Would you listen to Finding Your Sacred Contract again? Why?

I will give it another listen because I find the information presented in the book interesting and actually very important in the growth of the soul.

I feel like a lot of significant information is missed when one listens to a lecture but arent't present at it. You can't see the slides or powerpoint presentation that the people at the lecture can so you are left at a disadvantage.

I read Archetypes before this one on Sacred Contracts. Archetypes was very detailed and I did not find anything new in this book but Archetypes was written after Sacred Contracts to expand on the material and you can't really find your contract without knowing your archetypes.

Advice: Read Sacred Contracts first then Archetypes.

Would you recommend Finding Your Sacred Contract to your friends? Why or why not?

I would. The material is so important for growth it is definitely worth a listen.

What didn’t you like about Caroline Myss’s performance?

The author/presenter's voice is so grating and tinged with arrogance and is so annoying that it detracts from the presentation. She keeps people at a distance with her tone so she does not have to defend her self against those who might question her.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not in this one, read Archetypes after. You will be moved when she is speaking about yours. You will hear the voice of God under the grating, condescending tone of the speaker.

Eye opening...

Ms. Myss lecture is refreshing. She discusses how some people lead with their wounds, physical, mental, and spiritual. She speaks about the responsibility of creating balance of power within one's own life. She reminds us that we live certain patterns. One of my favorite phrases I heard was "to fail as a verb and not a noun". She is thought provoking, even at the places where I disagree with her. She reminds the listener to examine why they might/do disagree with her. This is as instructive as agreeing with her.

It is worth listening to. I am encouraging others in my life to listen to it. She introduces vocabulary that can help those who have difficulty with communicating about the inner-self.

Dissapointing Poor Production

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This audio book was not well put together given that was an extract from a workshop. Her delivery misses a lot of concepts that you can tell were covered in the workshop. It's an introductory product of her archetype concepts at best. Her delivery is amusing, but is very hard to put a structure to it. I don't recommend anyone to get it since it really doesn't give you much substance. Probably the other recordings might give you more insight about her teachings.

Would you ever listen to anything by Caroline Myss again?

Sure

What three words best describe Caroline Myss’s performance?

Amusing. Engaging. Angry at times.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Dissapointment

She asks "Are you with me" -I am not!

What would have made Finding Your Sacred Contract better?

This is a live workshop that is very hard to follow along. She is speaking quickly referencing many things I have heard or read from her before as though she is doing a summary of here contract, archetypes and 7 chakras, shadows and graces.

What do you think your next listen will be?

More of her audio books that are more cohesive; probably the Entering the Castle.

Would you be willing to try another one of Caroline Myss’s performances?

yes. I have listened to many. It is only this one that is really bad.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Finding Your Sacred Contract?

I would add video or have her redo the recording with her normal amount of focus and clarity.
