Publisher's summary

In this compelling and helpful book, previously published as It Came From Within!, pastor and author Andy Stanley wrestles with what he calls"four invaders of the heart": guilt, anger, greed, and jealousy. One or another of these caustic emotions sabotages lives on a daily basis and destroys relationships. But Stanley assures listeners that there is hope.

In his trademark style - smart, engaging, and popular - he examines where these powerful forces come from and reveals effective strategies for overcoming them and moving toward healing and maturity.

Life changing

This was the most life changing book I have ever read. I originally picked it up to deal with my anger issues, but I found my self relating to all four emotions discussed. I was in tears almost the entire time. This book really affected me. As I was reading it I could feel myself changing. After I read it I could feel myself applying the message to real life scenarios. I felt some peace at last. I just finished it a week ago but I am going to listen to it again. Since I read it I have been researching every book ever written by Andy Stanley. His words are so powerful and he puts things in ways I have never heard before. A must read.

MUST READ

A friend recommended this book to me. I get recommendations all the time. I thought no big deal. But boy was I wrong! This book was BEYOND AMAZING. I think I listened to the whole thing in one day! It is a must listen and I bought the actual book as well. That’s just how good it is.

Truthful and heart-wrenching

I wish I would have read this years ago. So many of the things he talks about happening if you don’t get these emotions under control have already happened in my life. It’s disheartening to think of the damage that’s already been done.
Andy gives practical examples with just enough biblical reference without making it too preachy.

Compelling, Heart Revelation, Life Changing

What did you love best about Enemies of the Heart?

The author, Andy Stanley, deals with a serious and sensitive subject matter and right through the audio, he manages to make the listener think, 'How does this apply to me and others in my life?' It has helped me to further understand the 'why' in how we behave and to look behind the behaviours to see the reason a person behaves in a certain way, instead of just the behaviours which are the out working of a much deeper issue. I love his sense of humour, I often smiled and sometimes laughed out loud, however there were times when the Lord touched my heart so deeply, I wanted to weep for the lack of understanding and compassion in the world.

Big Eye Opener

I enjoyed listening to this book, because Mr. Stanley really helps you to dig in and evaluate your own heart condition. I am a very structured person and thought I had a good grip on things when it comes to my heart condition, however, in light of this book, I quickly realized, I need to prayerfully consider all my actions and what is lingering around in my heart. He has encouraged me to memorize Proverbs 4:23 which is a reminder to guard our hearts. I'm grateful I bought this book. I recommend this to EVERYONE!

Great book just missing something

I grew up Catholic and attended every Sunday Mass but I would never say I was a “religious” person. Perhaps that’s why Andy Stanley’s books captivate me. They don’t come off as preaching to you. Nor do they come off like he’s better than you. Yet they get a point across using real life circumstances most people can relate and with a touch of humor which is refreshing. It puts a new take on religion and life. I really wish the discussion questions at the end of the book were attached in a PDF. I found myself pausing and writing them down to go back and reflect on the book. I believe they are to be used for a bible study/group work so perhaps they are available for purchase elsewhere, just would have been useful to have them with the audio book.
