Publisher's summary

The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.

In Life Code: The New Rules for Winning in the Real World, six-time New York Times number-one best-selling author Dr. Phil McGraw abandons traditional thinking and tells you the ugly truth about the users, abusers, and overall "bad guys" we all have in our lives. He also reveals the secrets of how they think and how they get to and exploit you and those you love. You'll gain incredible insight into these negative people, which he refers to as BAITERs (Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless), and you'll gain the tools to protect yourself from their assaults. Dr. Phil gives you the "Evil Eight" identifiers so you can see them coming from a mile away, as well as their "Secret Playbook", which contains the "Nefarious 15" tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially, and professionally. Life Code then focuses on you and your playbook, which contains the "Sweet 16" tactics for winning in the real world.

Edgy, controversial and sometimes irreverent, Dr. Phil again abandons convention to prepare you to claim what you deserve and claim it now. You take flying lessons to learn to fly, swimming lessons to learn to swim, and singing lessons to learn to sing. So, why not take winning lessons to learn to win?

listen today and put information to use today

If you could sum up Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code in three words, what would they be?

words of wisdom

What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?

many of the relationship and self help classics but a big difference is the focus is not on getting along well with others as being wise to people who would wish to undermine you no matter how positive, helpful and essential good you are to them and others

What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Enjoyed listening to his voice and funny texas sayings. Listening to the book over and over helped the information stick. I enjoy listening while driving or working. It gives extra exposure that I wouldn't get by setting down to read.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Getting specific information on dealing with conflict and using it in my life and watching the person attempt to use many of the negative attacking behaviors toward me that I was not only prepared for but very clear on my desired outcome. The experience was the most positive I have ever had in dealing with a difficult person. I was totally prepared and clear on my desired outcome and did not get off course by their response. I feel more confident in my ability to deal better in the future with difficult people and catching situations immediately instead of letting it fester because "I cant believe they said or did that". Now I am more aware that "oh yes I can beleive they would be capable of saying or doing that" and I won't be caught unaware again.

I would just to recap on some key strategies

What did you like best about this story?

Made no opologies for puting your own outcomes above others

Would you be willing to try another one of Phil McGraw’s performances?

yes

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Far too long was spent ( a whole chapter I think) on telling you what he was going to tell you and how important what he was going to impart was. I realise that this is part of the training model of Tell em what you are going to em, tell em, and then tell em what you told them. But I found it a annoying

Read it, so don't mention it anymore Dr. Phil...

I REALLY think this is a great book. I think EVERY woman (especially Southern) should read it, since we are taught to be polite over anything else. Be polite, but DO NOT GIVE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT. Very interesting points and I liked the spirit of the information. Highly recommended. Even though I think he mentions it WAY TOO much on his show.

Dr. Phil's EGO Code

What would have made Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code better?

While his love of himself grates on me, I saw Dr. Phil on OWN doing a Lifeclass about this book. I enjoyed the points he shared and decided to buy the book here. I may have to return this title if he doesn't stop what he starts in the first 5 minutes of listening. You get to hear how amazing HIS career has been and how terrific HIS success in life is. They you have to hear about HIS wonderful marriage and HIS two amazingly successful sons. HELLO? PAGING PHIL MCGRAW... THIS BOOK ISN'T ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL YOU THINK YOU ARE.

If you’ve listened to books by Phil McGraw before, how does this one compare?

I have not because of this very fear, that McGraw would make the entire book like his television appearances, about himself and his love for himself.

What didn’t you like about Phil McGraw’s performance?

Self-Centered and annoying. He actually works for Oprah Winfrey still and she has a hand in pretty much any "product" with his name. While she can have flashes of self importance it is amazing to me she hasn't sat him down and told him to take the spotlight off himself and shine it on HIS AUDIENCE.

What character would you cut from Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code?

Dr. Phil McGraw.

Any additional comments?

I feel this book HAS good information in it but so far it buried so far under McGraw's self congratulatory tone it is grating.

Useful information and worth your time to listen

If you could sum up Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code in three words, what would they be?

Painfully, audible has formatted their reviews which makes writing a good review very difficult. But my three words would be TEDIOUS - McGraws introduction, which drags on and on and on, is very difficult to takeUSEFUL - McGraw resummarizes specialty reading for professionals by highlighting the antisocial and personality disordered individuals in terms non professionals can relate to - he calls them 'baiters'WORTHY - worth your time to listen even though you may be aware of some or much of the advice he dispenses

What did you like best about this story?

McGraw calls the antisocial personality disordered (narcissists, borderlines and sociopaths in professional terms accounting for up to 30% of the general population) BAITERS which refers to Backstabbers, Abusers, Imposters, Takers, Exploiters, Reckless- people who will hurt you in life. He describes them so that you might recognize them, which he calls the "tools" to recognize them - which he calls the “Evil Eight” (identifiers) so you can see them coming, and identifies their “Secret Playbook,” which contains the “Nefarious 15” tactics they use to exploit you and take what is yours mentally, physically, socially and professionally. McGraw then focuses on you (and your 'playbook'), which contains the “Sweet 16” tactics for winning in life and the real world.Basically, trust no one, recognize and understand the narcissistic and self serving deceit and manipulations of antisocially disordered people. McGraw never gives statistics but sub clinical antisocials account for at least 16-18% of the population and clinical antisocials about 8%, which is quite a large number of people. As McGraw said, you might be married to one, and you surely know several.McGraw then gives advice to 'get with it' and develop a positive goal oriented, competitively based series of personal goals for you to accomplish in life those things to maximize your own potential.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

NO question about it - the intro drags and drags on with what this book is going to do for you. My advice - suffer through it by doing something else while you listen. When he gets serious then listen more carefully.

What did you learn from Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code that you would use in your daily life?

Most people have not had serious run ins with antisocially disordered people or have failed to recognize past problems as such. And most don't know that these problems are caused by deceitful, manipulative predatory personalities. Dr. Phil gives you and me everyday tools to recognize the antisocial BAITERS and concepts to avoid or deal with them effectively.

Any additional comments?

A freeform comment area might be a better means to relay the audible content than this self-limiting format. Also, except for the ruthless self promotion of the book in the beginning, which is tedious, McGraw is effective as a narrator emphasizing useful and relevant concepts as he presents them.

Inevitable Reading for Successful People

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to many friends because it was a co-worker and dear friend who recommended it to me. Besides, this book is the handbook of practical strategies for life's inevitable challenges and unfair deals.

What other book might you compare Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code to and why?

I would compare this book to Peck's "The Road Less Travelled" and some of John Maxwell's books, based on the emotional, spiritual, and holistic awakening the books inspire.

What does Phil McGraw bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Dr. Phil adds a personal touch. His instructive voice and encouraging words incite an awareness of the evil and adversary in our world and how equipped we should become to adequately deal with them.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and no. I was curious to hear similar experiences and how to conquer them and other experiences and how to overcome them. However, books as such are copious and cannot be digested in one sitting or course.

Any additional comments?

I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Pure Dr. Phil.

Would you try another book from Phil McGraw and/or Phil McGraw?

Yes. He offers a fresh outlook and unique action plans.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Still a little negative. He says he is just keeping it real. He may be right, I just hope not.

Which scene was your favorite?

What he says about infidelity was wise.

Could you see Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I think it has. The Dr. Phil Show.

Any additional comments?

If you like this book, read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Covey. Dr. Phil borrowed heavily from him.

What made the experience of listening to Dr. Phil McGraw: Life Code the most enjoyable?

Generally, this man is too mushy-feely for me, but this is firm straight talk that rings true in my heart.

Way to long to get started!

Well, first I will say I love Dr Phil. I quote him often. Yes, he went on and on about this book on his show, so it worked and I brought it. But, I have only listened to about the first 45 mins to an hour... I agree with other reviewers that he has just spent all that time telling me what he is going to tell me and how important it is. I got so bored and lost patience waiting for him to get to the content, that I gave up. I still have it in my library...but, it's been months and I still can't motivate myself to go back to it because of the slow start. if I had had the paper version, it would have been easier to see how long it was and how to skip all that.
