"Few people understand this idea as well as Melody Beattie, an author recovering successfully from a variety of addictive disorders and entanglements." (AudioFile)
"Bettie understands being overboard, which helps her throw best-selling lifelines to those still adrift." (Time)
This book is very useful if you think you might have even the slightest problem with dependency in relationships. The first half is very insightful and provides a much broader concept of codependent relationship styles than those I had been aware of before. It made me realize the full extent of my actions and what they meant in relation to my past. I highly recommend it.
Yes. I think it is helpful
After reading and listening to so much self help books, this would become the top of my list.
A counselor once mentioned to me that I was co-dependent without providing an adequate definition. She recommended this book. At first, I thought it was going to really tell me something, but instead it mainly provided examples of other cases that the author believed to demonstrate co-dependency without providing a clear cut definition. I was a little more confused after reading it than before.
