Publisher's summary

The world is changing. Markets have crashed. Jobs have disappeared. Industries have been disrupted and are being remade before our eyes. Everything we aspired to for "security," everything we thought was "safe," no longer is: College. Employment. Retirement. Government. It’s all crumbling down.

In every part of society, the middlemen are being pushed out of the picture. No longer is someone coming to hire you, to invest in your company, to sign you, to pick you. It’s on you to make the most important decision in your life: Choose Yourself.

New tools and economic forces have emerged to make it possible for individuals to create art, make millions of dollars, and change the world without "help." More and more opportunities are rising out of the ashes of the broken system to generate real inward success (personal happiness and health) and outward success (fulfilling work and wealth).

This audiobook will teach you to do just that. With dozens of case studies, interviews and examples - including the author, investor and entrepreneur James Altucher's own heartbreaking and inspiring story - Choose Yourself illuminates your personal path to building a bright, new world out of the wreckage of the old.

Excellent, Motivational + Real

What did you love best about Choose Yourself!?

Choose Yourself really brings you inside of James Altucher's perspective. He speaks candidly and honestly, without formulaic and deliberately scripted cadence. Having an author narrate his own book from the heart is powerful, because he has the power to enunciate the specific words he chooses, in the way he sees fit, to deepen your comprehension as a listener.

What did you like best about this story?

Altucher has no reason to hold back and nothing to hide. Because of this, the story reads with sincerity. I love hearing the truth of the worst parts of his life thus far - like spending Thanksgiving alone eating a turkey sandwich and making up stories that he's a psychic on Craigslist just because he needed to feel the connection at such a low point in his life.

Everyone wants to be the millionaire but nobody talks about the struggle.

Which scene was your favorite?

The concept of Idea-Sex is my favorite. Since learning this tip, sometimes I cannot think straight without creating a list.

What did you learn from Choose Yourself! that you would use in your daily life?

There's a concept... well, an exercise where you make a list of 10 things daily. I have been making it a point to get this list done on a more consistent basis.

good advice

Any additional comments?

James Altucher should not narrate. He talks too fast. He has great advice but his pace was so fast it was hard to listen to at times. So good content but bad narration.

Nobody cares about my opinion

Where does Choose Yourself! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm an audiobook junky. This one is in my top 3 for sure, #1 in the self-improvement category, for sure. (If you've read the book, you'll get my headline.) If you've not listened to this book, merely read it, you're missing a real treat. And by real, I mean real. How refreshing it is to hear an author tell, rather than read. I've not heard of the author before listening to this. From beginning to end, the author's honesty shines through his "it worked for me" stories. Altucher is polar opposite of those myriad motivational gurus, a genre I generally can't stomach. Business/self-improvement books generally contain 10% useful material, 80% filler, and 20% self-aggrandizing narcissism of the author (yes, I know that's greater than 100%--listen and you'll understand that, too). Choose Yourself is 100% meat. And, at 4 hours, it's pretty short.

Hilarious and inspirational at the same time

It's awesome that he reads it himself, and not completely dry like some books. He's blunt, and thinks much of life is BS... Except for self care. I agree. If you can't muster the care for yourself, you'll likely not be able to succeed in the fun, meaningful parts if life.

Chatting with the next door neighbor.

I love this book, it was like chatting with the neighbor who is a bit weird but made a lot of sense. He was a bit all over the place but overall, it was awesome.

real, honest, vulnerable

somewhat refreshing to hear an author not having it all together but trying to create value from his own failures and lessons. Well done, bookmarked several parts to return to.
