In this program, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer has reviewed hundreds of translations of the Tao Te Ching and has created 81 distinct essays on how to apply the ancient wisdom of Lao-tzu to today's modern world. This work contains the entire 81 verses of the Tao, compiled from Wayne's researching of 10 of the most well-respected translations of text that have survived for more than 25 centuries. As Wayne says, "This is an audiobook that will forever change the way you look at your life, and the result will be that you'll live in a new world aligned with nature. I'm so proud to present this interpretation of the Tao Te Ching, and offer the same opportunity for change that it has brought me."

From the PBS series i thought I would try the book and was not disappointed. I buy every book I find and see myself listening to these affirmations during my busy day to keep life in perspective. Essential for developing and maintaining a strong spiritual foundation.
This was pretty good, but not up there with his best work. I am a fan of Dr. Dyer and I think this could have been better. One drawback is his soothing voice narrating this book. His voice tended to drone me to sleep if I were in bed. I had to listen several times to hear the book due to this. As far as content...
The book is deep, "very" deep. It may be too deep for some and I think I fall into that category. It went so deep that he lost me at times. This is why I give it a 3 star rating instead of 4 or 5 stars. Deep, but not so deep that you lose the point would have been better.
I think his unabridged version of "The Power of Intention" was far better.
Because I now do daily morning walks, I decided to purchase (for the first time) an audiobook format to keep me company. I wanted something enlightening and motivating, and having remembered from years ago when I first read one of Dr. Dyer's books (The Power of Intention), I decided to check out some of his other works. I found this and I am so happy I did. Listening to him is very soothing along with the empowering words of wisdom and life lessons he so thoroughly gathered from the Tao Te Ching's teachings. It is so amazing that such ancient teachings can be so applicable to our lives today, and this is what Dr. Dyer brings to us. This has definitely shifted my ways of thinking and feeling, and I feel empowered to apply them to any situation in my life now when I need/want to with a much calmer and open heart approach. This has made me feel more centered and grounded. Thank you, Dr. Dyer!
All I can say is this is a masterpiece. That said, reading the book is slightly better vs. listening to the audio as the concepts of the Tau are a little strange to the western ear and it may take two or three readings of a concept for it to make sense. But if you can live with rewinding a time or two this is worth every penny and more.
Well read by the author. However, some may misunderstand the depth of the message. It is an active accpetance of status quo that is the message rather than a passive acquiescence
very inspiring, a good thing to listen to on long trips when you won't be disturbed. This would be a great gift to help those who need a lift and a new prospect on life
I actually had hopes for this book. I knew there would be some amount of pantheistic babbling but the Dao can provide some great insights into life - new ways of thinking about things. My disappointment is that this book really does not meet man's real condition in the real world. The author's application to our time and place is too vague with too few insights.I would recommend William Martin's books based on the Dao; there is one for lovers, one for parents and one for the 2nd half of life.
I am a creative, brainstorming genius! Ok maybe not a genius... but close! I am an avid runner, marathoner and student of exceptional living!
This audiobook is my favorite of all the books I've listened to so far... which is a lot! I found Wayne Dyer's voice very pleasant to listen to, and the content is fabulous. The information is well presented. If everyone lived according to the way of the Tao, the world would be a better place. As a reader of Eckhart Tolle's A New Earth I think this book covers many of the same concepts in ANE, only in an easier to understand format.
He who knows does not speak, he who speaks does not know. And Wayne talks a lot (lol). Of course if you want to share this wisdom you have to either write it down or talk about it. Apart from a bit of self-glorification by Wayne, a bit too much talk (you could easily edit out 10-15% and keep the message intact), does he really have to repeat dozens of times that the Tao Te Ching is 2500 years old, ... this audiobook is a great way to either get to know Taoism or to make it part of your daily life. Inspiring and motivating. I highly recommend it.
One of the most inspiring things I have ever heard.
"Very insightful, beautiful and universal!"
Good interpretation of ancient wisdom as practical spiritual advice for our modern times. Well narrated and easy to understand.
This is an audiobook that challenges the different ways we live and thought processes and introduces different ways of thinking that may lead to one attaining a better, more wholesome life as a result of being more positive as a result of adopting the ideas presented in this audiobook. Definitely worth a listen.
"A book that grows in strength & power."
This is one book that has been truly helpful. Nothing in it is new - all the problems people had when the Tao te Ching was written are the same as we face today, which is comforting itself, but more than that it offers a way to be kind and gentle with ourselves and to believe in our essential goodness. Dr. Dwyer has a peaceful, tranquil voice that instills calm and ease on the listener like a long deep refreshing breath!
"The Daily Verse"
I have been listening to this book each morning - as instructed. I agree it is best to just listen to one verse at a time - so as soon as I wake I listen and learn - it is so calming and wonderful. I would recommend it not just as an audio book but as a way of life. I have listened to most of it a number of times as much is very relevant and useful to a troubled mind. It is the best audio book I have bought.
"Very tedious and trite."
Its not always necessary for a book to say something new to be useful, but this book seemed to expand the old, brief wisdom of the original into mind-numbing obviousness.
I am not that exacting when I listen on car journeys, but I couldn't finish this.
I couldn't really evaluate the performance with no interest in the content.
This is not a relevant question.
I have bought a lot of audible titles, and only really disliked a handful, but this is one of them.
"WD is 'Mr Guru'"
This is why Wayne is Dr. Wayne. Whilst at times this can get overly philosophical, it is nevertheless a thorough analysis of the Tao. Some true life-changing lessons to be learned here. It can be hard going at times- whilst there is no waffle, it does require much thought and attention. As Wayne implies, let it be as it is.
