Publisher's Summary

Christians often focus so much on being loving and giving that they forget their own limitations.

Have you ever found yourself wondering:

  • Can I set limits and still be a loving person?
  • What are my legitimate boundaries?
  • How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money?
  • Why do I feel guilty when I consider setting boundaries?

Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend give you biblically-based answers to these and other tough questions, showing you how to set healthy boundaries with parents, spouses, children, friends, coworkers, and even yourself.

You'll see vital principles of boundaries at work as Drs. Cloud and Townsend take you through a day in the life of "Sherrie", first as she lives with almost no boundaries, then as she begins to apply proper boundaries with others in her life.

    "Boundaries with People"
Would you listen to Boundaries again? Why?

Yes!! This is an absolutely great book. I read it years ago. About a year ago, a friend mentioned it and shared her experience with it so we decided to do a bookstudy. This book has great realistic examples and advice on setting boundaries with family, friends, children, coworkers, and even yourself. It even gives biblical scripture as a reference. This is a great book. It helped me a lot!!!

What other book might you compare Boundaries to and why?

I can't think of another Boundaries book that was a precise and beneficial as this one.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Sherri finally got some peace of mind by giving other people rightful responsibility for their lives.

"The most detailed book on relationships."

I really like this book but get out your notepad because you will need to really take time to digest the wealth of revelation in this book. It's unbelievable how this book not only reveals the reasons and solutions to other peoples behavior issues but also highlights your own strengths and weaknesses. I like books that not only tell it how it is but also tell you how it's supposed to be based on the truth in God's word. I love this book. I will have to listen to it over and over. I highly recommend this book.

    "Excellent!!"

This really gets down to the 'truth' of whats going on. And presents it in context with Scripture.

"Could not get into this book"

I listened to almost all of Part one, and then just decided/realized that I was not getting much out of the book. The narration was just so-so, and the book did not flow well. The examples were less than real for me. This may be a book that is better read than listened to.

    "Covers everything"

This books covers every aspect of boundaries. I found it very useful since it really makes you think about the subject. I would have liked it better without all the blibical references. They were little boring for me but the narrator does a great job for keeping it enjoyable

    "Should've Read these Reviews..."

I heard about this book on a radio show in which there was no mention of the intolerable amount of Christian biblical reference throughout. When I state 'throughout' I mean it is rare to get thru four sentences without some sort of bible quote or reference. I don't mind the mention of God here and there, but this was overkill to the point of annoyance and it was a major distraction from what the book was supposedly written about... Establishing boundaries in your relationships. This book should have been titled " The Christian's Biblical Reference Guide to Everything God Said Which Relates to Boundaries" or just "Boundaries are Good: God Said So"... Ugh, ugh, ugh. Let's just say I'd rather listen to somebody violently vomit them listen to this audiobook again… Honestly. And no I am not an Anthiest. Nice try though...

"A must read for everyone.. The sooner, the better!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Boundaries to be better than the print version?

I have both the audio version and the print version. While I like having a Table of Contents, I kept getting bogged down while reading the print version. The first 100 pages, or so, are somewhat difficult to digest. I found myself losing focus. The audio version, for me, worked quite well! I did have to rewind a few of the key points, but it was fairly smooth. I also like the portability and accessability of having it on my phone! I can listen in the car, while on a flight, while working out, etc.!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Boundaries?

What I appreciate most about Boundaries is that it helped me to understand why I am the way I am in certain situations. It helped me to face my past, find myself, and it gave me some tools with which I can grow. My relationships are better already!

What does Dick Fredricks bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narrator varies his pace, voice, and inflection quite well which helped me to maintain focus and not "gloss over." He made the book easier to digest!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Because of the material presented, I do not recommend you attempt to listen to this book in one sitting.

    "Good content bad reading"

The content of the book is well thought out and presented. It has a lot to offer me.

The narration is another matter. When the reader came to a passage in which a woman was speaking he would use a voice that sounded weak and felt condesending toward women. My wife listened to more than half of the book with me, but she faithfully protested the voice used to portray the female characters.

The text is very gender inclusive. The reading is not.
