Everyone has a story to tell, whether it's a memoir of an exciting life or fictional characters in your head trying to get out. Perhaps you've thought it might be cool to write a book but always believed it was beyond your reach and ability.
To be more precise, it doesn't have to be. All you lack is the motivation to get started, the tenacity to stay with it, and the expertise to get it finished. I can help you with the first two.
In this book I'll show you some of the rewards that might come your way by becoming an independent author. I also provide a few tips on how to overcome certain common stumbling blocks.
But this isn't a how-to book. There are many learned scholars publishing books about the craft of creative writing. This is more of a motivational book, giving you an idea of what you might expect as a midlevel author. Whether you're just thinking about writing or already have several books published, we could all use a little motivation.
Who am I? Just an old truck driver who is now off the road and living the life I've always dreamed of after just two years of writing.

I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
As an avid reader and listener I love self published books because they tend to be inexpensive. I do not have the storytelling talent to be an author of fiction, but despite his lack of college Wayne Stinnett does. This book is his story of how in three years he has gone from driving trucks for a living to making much more money self publishing through Amazon ten novels, nine in his wonderful Caribbean Adventures/Jesse McDermitt series and one so far in his new Caribbean Thriller/Charity Styles series. Stinnett is a wonderful storyteller and I recommend all of his books.
Stinnett also self publishes Audible versions of all of his books which are $1.99 each if you buy the Kindle version (and if you have Kindle Unlimited you can borrow the Kindle version for free and get the Audible version for $1.99). Kindle Unlimited costs $9.99 per month but Amazon usually puts one full year on sale each summer for about $70.
This book is a combination of an introduction how to self publish and a pep talk to potential self publishers. It is utterly fascinating. He also covers audiobooks. Nick Sullivan, one of the best, narrates all of his audiobooks.
Blue Collar to No Collar is a wonderful little non-fiction. I does not cover some of the people who have become wealthy through self publishing. There are many. Two of my favorite authors other than Stinnett, Mark Dawson and Nick Spalding, have also been major self publishing successes. In addition, two well established authors, Barry Eisler and Joe (J.A.) Konrath, now self publish.
