I'm new this author, but I was impressed enough to buy her other works as well. This audio book is very soothing, and lush with visuals. The evenings when I listen to it I find I dream deeper and more vividly.
Ever since I was a child, I've been comforted by spoken word and stories . I love Simon Vance's narratives, Anthony Bourdain's humour.
I love her work, and looked forward to more of Dr.Estes spoken word since buying Women Who Run With The Wolves many years ago. I have The Beginners Dream Interpretation and one or two others.
This was a bit of rehash for me. Her gorgeous mellifluous voice felt very precious towards the ends...a bit contrived and I lost interest.
The narrator's voice is incredibly soothing and caring. After she encourages you to fix your favourite pillow in place and assures you that there is no judgment if you fall asleep whilst she is reading, it took me four days to listen to the entire (very short) book. The bedtime stories are not new, but they do take you back to a time when they mattered for many of us. Somewhere in between thinking that adults 'don't do this' and the alluring sense of feeling that all is okay, it is hard not to submit to sleep. Once listened to, I won't re-listen again too soon, but can't bring myself to delete the book from my library either!
Serenity, soothing and short
No, I can't compare but would love to listen to another book!
It helps me relax and clears my mind which helps me sleep.
Yes, I already have.
Yes, this is not in depth learning, its just relaxing and comforting.
love the authors comforting and soothing voice.
I love listening to this as I fall asleep. It's nurturing and helps me relax. Bedtime stories for adults that help lull you to sleep peacefully. I like it.
This is an awful book. you would of though it had to do with relaxation to help you sleep, at least thats the intro youre able to listen to but then what you get is stories like Snow White, what a joke. isn't even soothing or relaxing. save your money
If your struggling to go to sleep then this is a must listen to and if your sleeping ok then this is still a good listen
"Zzzzzz - but in a very good way"
Like many people, I can find it hard to fully switch off and drift off to sleep at night. I've tried several audiobooks, with varying degrees of success down the years, however, I can heartily recommend Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book.
It's not just what she's saying, but the way she says it, that will have you dozing off within minutes.
The fact that I'm yet to actually make it through to the end of the book would be seen as damning criticism for most audiobooks, but, given what Estes sets out to achieve, it is obviously incredibly high praise.
A must-download for anyone searching for sweet dreams come bedtime.
"antidote to restless mind"
I love listening to Dr Estes, she has a warm and mystical voice. I used to avoid going to sleep until completely exhausted but with this book I am training my mind and body to prepare for sleep in a healthy way.
Lovely storytelling with the addition of some interesting information and helpful suggestions for sleep. She is a fantastic storyteller with just the right tone of voice and a pace that leads towards sleep.
"This woman has magic in her voice"
I can't write a full review of this as I have not managed to listen to the whole of it. I would estimate that the furthest I have reached is perhaps 20 minutes. For the part I have heard, I would say, it's not so much what she says but the way that she says it !
There are a couple of nice concepts , a couple of relaxation suggestions , then it's on with the story, which seems to be a meshing together of several favourite fairy tales.
At the price, i bought it outright instead of using my credit and I have already had more than value for money . If you ever have trouble sleeping or just fancy the idea of having all your cares soothed away from time to time, i would highly recommend this audio.
"Even grown ups need a bedtime story."
Goodnight, sleep tight!
The Creative Fire by the same author, otherwise this audiobook is quite unique.
I love the way Clarissa Pinkola Estes retells familiar tales so that they sound fresh and new.
Well, it's just not that kind of book, it's designed to sooth you off to sleep, so it would be something like, "You won't stay awake long enough to see the ending."!
CPEstes has such a lovely voice and she lulls you into a dreamy state in which her reading works on a subconscious level. The only thing that spoils it is the corporate man's voice that wakes you up at the end saying, "Thank you for listening to Audible." Perhaps Audible could consider leaving this off their products designed to induce sleep.
I've only partly listened to this once. Since its aplication specific I can't rate it for longevity I don't know if it will lose its effect listening to the same stories over and over as I drift off, but I do know its very relaxing and I had a very interesting dream that I can recall with pretty good clarity and I woke up feeling noticeably better than usual. This is really astounding considering I have had pretty much zero dream recall for years now. Based on my personal experience I think this would be good for insomniacs, depressives and anxious types. So instant 5 stars thx.
