Try Joel's advice for 30 days

I enjoyed this book much more than his first book. I recommend this book to everyone and after listening to it, try his suggestions for at least thirty days and I would be shocked if you did not notice a difference in your life.

Joel outlines many different steps and supports them with Biblical based examples as well as examples from his own life.

It is well worth the money and time invested in listening to the book.

Great inspiration

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to gain perspective on their life - where they came from, where they are now and why they can create a better life and self. I am not a particularly religious person but Mr. Osteen uses passages and messages from the bible in a way that is still effective for non-Christians and Christians alike.

The message is very clear. It is up to each of us to create the life we want and it starts with our belief that we can do something about it.

I recommend this book highly. It is particularly effective on tape. He is an excellent orator. Perfect to start the new year.

gooey

Uck. Dripping with "God wants you to be the best you can be." God is of course, male. Doesn't help that the author has a heavy, southern accent George-bush-y kind of voice. Super basic stuff, without the humor of "All I need to know I learned in Kindergarten" nor the intelligence and wisdom of Deepak or Dyer.

the positive side of God's word

To many times we are taught the negative shoulds or oughts of God's word. Joel Osteen teaches the positive side of the Bible. A view that will make a person glad to know the word of God.

Positive and affirming

This book is filled with ways to improve your day to day life by becoming accountable for who you are and how you interact with people. It also reminds you to affirm your own self worth. The ideas aren't revolutionary, just relevant and straight forward. It is a positive and thoughtful book.

Not worth a credit

While I greatly respect Joel Osteen's ministry, I have to say I am greatly disaappointed in this book.

Number One: It is written for the person who has low self esteem, and is in a bad spot in life. Joel admonishes the reader to replace negative self thoughts with "I am successful, I am creative, I am a good person, etc."

Secondly, Joel says things like "you are created in God's image," and "God desires for you to live a life of abundance," but he doesn't cite the scriptures where this is taken from. In fact, nowhere are there any scripture references, unless they are in the bibliography, which of course, you don't have in the Audible version.

Simple but Profound

Where did this guy come from? He has a grasp of what Jesus meant, far better than I have ever heard before, and he has a clear understanding that Jesus came to unite us with the Creator. His sense of our relationship to the Creator -- or "the universe" as it is called in "the secret"-- is profound. There is no way a person can do what he says and not end up a better person for it. I know, because I am. Eleanor, it's not always "deep." Sometimes, it's as simple as the nose on your face. Joel says it as well or better than Deprak or Dyer, both of whom I admire very much.
