Publisher's summary

So many people today have an unhealthy need for affirmation and are unable to feel good about themselves without it. These "approval addicts" spend their time in a constant struggle with low self-esteem and emotional turmoil, which leads to major problems in their relationships with others.

In her latest book, Joyce Meyer provides a path to release from the overwhelming need for acceptance from the outside world, an acceptance that is unfulfilling and leads only to disappointment. Through an analysis of what makes an "approval addict" and the ways to find release from specific character traits that foster addiction, Joyce provides a supportive voice and a personal understanding of the effect of insecurity in one's life. Her abiding message is that God provides all the affirmation anyone needs and through Him they can attain freedom. Begin the journey toward self-understanding and learn to:

  • Accept who you are. All of us struggle with our sense of worthiness. Joyce's goal is to help us understand that we are all whole in God, regardless of our flaws.
  • Address your approval addictions. Understanding the specific character traits that foster addiction, and how our past is often a factor in our behavior, is a major step in overcoming our insecurities.
  • Break the pattern for the future. Only by taking conscious steps toward accepting ourselves and examining our motives, and by depending on the God who loves us regardless, can we finally begin to break the chains of insecurity and move toward a life free from emotional pain.
  • God tells us over and over in the Bible that we are loved and we are worthy. Begin now to overcome your approval addiction by taking an honest look at who you are and how you feel about yourself.

Great Christian Self Esteem book

I have been listening to the approval addiction audio.I think it is the only self esteem book one should read as a christian. There are many useful truths.Truths like:Approval addiction is bondage.ask God to free you from that prison.Being addicted to approval is a miserable way to live. You cannot please everyone. Please the one who loves you unconditionally. God loves you.He sent his son to die for you. Even while you were still imperfect. He loves you. The way a mother loves her child unconditionally. God loves you even more. He is the most important one that you shd seek approval from. He made you to commune with him. He loves you totally.Jesus came to heal us. Take to him your emotional hurt and pain.Ask God to heal your emotional wounds.God wants us to be ourselves. To be what he created us to be. He is not surprised by how we are. he wants us to be comfortable being ourselves. We are all uniquely made. we should love ourselves. It is a commandment. This audio has improved my self esteem greatly. It has helped me to focus on what is most important in my life.It has improved my spiritual life.Joyce has been very candid about her life and I appreciate her honesty. No one is perfect.
I would highly recommend this book to any christian who suffers from low self esteem and is not enjoying life to its fullest.Gods truths remain unchanged.Just believe in him and you shall be set free.I will definetely buy the book as a reference guide whenever I need a boost of confidence in who I am.

Excellent book.

I just finished this audible book and I think I am going to listen to it all over again right away. It was awesome. The narrator is very good, speaks very clearly and has a "calming", yet "take charge" voice. This was the first thing I have "read" by Joyce Meyer and I think she is great! I hold a position at church and deal with many personalities - so this book will help me not to worry nearly so much about others' approval as I do about God's. It has ALREADY helped me change my attitude about the way I look at myself, my self-confidence in what I feel God leads me to do no matter what others do, say or think. I highly recommend this book to every person. God bless Joyce Meyer for the work she is doing to help all of us!

One of my Favorites

This has been one of my favorite Joyce Meyer books because I was an approval addict and have come a long way with the help of 12 step programs, listening and watching Joyce Meyer (A Lot and now this audio book) and of course most of all God. I liked the narrator, easy to listen to which is important.

very helpful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, gave me confidants to say no and not feel discoraged if people don't approve. remined me not to be a people pleaser. Be a God pleaser!!

What did you learn from Approval Addiction that you would use in your daily life?

It's ok to say no, and not feel guilty. also not to let your approval addiction rule you making you do things you really don't want to . because you need people to like you. because you will never please everyone all the time...and They will just have to deal with it,it's their problem if they don't like it...not yours.
