Publisher's summary

From the legendary basketball coach who inspired generations of athletes and businesspeople, an inspiring book about the power of mentoring and being mentored.

After eight books, many of them best sellers, A Game Plan for Life is the one closest to John Wooden's heart: a moving and inspirational guide to the power of mentorship. The first half focuses on the people who helped foster the values that carried Wooden through an incredibly successful and famously principled career, including his college coach, his wife, Abraham Lincoln, and Mother Teresa. The second half is built around interviews with some of the many people he mentored over the years, including Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, Bill Walton, fellow coaches, family members, and even a middle school coach in Canada.

Their testimony takes readers inside the lessons Wooden taught to generations of players, bringing out the very best in them not just as athletes but as human beings. In all, its an inspiring primer on how to achieve success without sacrificing principles, and on how to build one of the most productive and rewarding relationships available to any athlete, businessperson, teacher, or parent: that of mentor and protege.

Love it

I've listen to this book a couple of times and I love the mentoring I get out of it each time I do. John Wooden really led a special life so glad he took the time to write his wisdom down.

Excellent insight into the values of John Wooden.

Where does A Game Plan For Life: The Power of Mentoring rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This has been my favorite audio book so far this year.

Who was your favorite character and why?

In the second half of the book, people who have been mentored by John gave an account of the impact he has had on their lives. I thought this was an interesting approach. I really enjoyed hearing the chapters from Bill Walton and John's granddaughter.

What does Paul Boehmer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought Paul did an excellent job narrating the book. He brought the right expression and it was a good pace to take everything in.

What did you learn from A Game Plan For Life: The Power of Mentoring that you would use in your daily life?

I appreciated the priority John Wooden place on ensuring he was helping people become better people as opposed to worrying about the wins and losses. I think that's a powerful message for any leader or coach.

Simple to understand and listen to

I have trouble reading and this book was so easy for me to read in my mind.

Everything said has such meaning and truths.

I will listen to it over and over until it is tattooed in my mind.

It’s that simple and important.

Mentoring still even after he has passed away.

Exceptional book. So many lessons I wish I had learned as a young man. One of two books that should be given to every high school graduate. Wild at Heart being the other one. Thank you Coach.

Timeless and life changing

Wow! So much inspiration. I usually listen to books at 1.25 speed. After the first chapter I slowed it down and started taking notes.
