"Chandler is like...an insane combination of Jerry Seinfeld and Anthony Robbins." (Fred Knipe, PBS TV writer)

A Great "Look in the Mirror" Book For Everyone!

I didn’t think that the simple 17 points that this book made would have the impact that they do… but they do!

Sometimes, simple is better and when it’s pointed out when I say “I don’t have time”, and then helps me to take another look at the statement (lie), it brings about a shift in thinking that you just can’t get away from.

I’m a motivational/inspirational speaker and I’ll be sure to reference this book in my future talks.

Terrific Book!

Terrific book that really reminded me why we need not be discouraged and should in fact be excited to wake up and pursue life each day! I really appreciate Steve's insight and recommend 17 Lies that Are Holding You Back to anyone needing some encouragement.

Not insightful, good reminder not to make excuses

There isn't anything insightful about the 17 lies we tell ourselves, like "that isn't me" or "I'm too old." There were a few "lies" that I had not considered as being negative statements; they seemed more like facts. But after listening the author's reasoning, I began to wonder if they're really true obstacles or excuses that I tell myself. It would be useful to listen to this audio book whenever we feel we've hit some roadblocks.

Buy, Listen, Take Action

Of all the books I've read, tapes I've listened to, and workshops I've attended, this audiobook is probably the most amazing thing I've ever heard... and I thought I had heard everything. The collection of lies, while both powerful and revealing, are delivered in such as way that you likely will be smiling at some of the lies we tell ourselves, and nodding your head in agreement with others. This audiobook alone was worth my one year membership at audible.com.

Pretty good

Had I noticed it was from Steve Chandler I would have never gotten this book, mainly because I remember really hating his voice on another audio. I think Steve has greatly improved, and the material in this book is truly valuable too. I really like it.

Chapter 7 Steve teaches about worrying and how to cure yourself of that disgusting habit.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Stop thinking like you're dying dipshit.

Any additional comments?

When I got this I thought there would be a 50% chance of returning it because I wouldn't like it.

But, I love it, once you get used to Steve's deep voice the content is very motivational.

If you're interested it's definitely worth giving a shot.

I listen to it in the morning during my coffee ritual and it goes well with the caffeine.

This book has changed my life

This book had life-altering revelation after revelation. I am, all at once, convicted and empowered in a way I haven't been in years.

New ideas

I really enjoyed the humor used in this book. The comedy helped the author make his points. Too many self help books are humorless and much less compelling.

I thought the author did an excellent job of narrating. I actually thought it was by a professional narrator but was pleased to find it was the author. An author gives the exact nuance to his writing and you know you are getting the best interpretation.

The ideas in this book were generally new, not the rehashed platitudes you find in many self-help books. I attribute that to the authors varied background (which included writing country music).

Outstanding Piece of Work

Although in other reviews of Steve's work a few listeners have commented on his tone of voice (it is rather deep) and his delivery (he isn't as inflective as some readers), I thoroughly enjoyed listening and laughing to his dry sense of humor and his cut-to-the-chase insights. In my view, Steve's delivery is excellent, as you feel like he's right there talking to you (as opposed to simply reading the book to you). Steve's openness and candor about his own foibles makes this work even more enjoyable - as he openly admits that he has told these same lies to himself (and he provides numerous examples), and has struggled as much as (if not more than) most when it comes to getting a grip and taking responsibility for his own life. This is one audio book I plan to listen to again and again. Way to go Steve! BTW... I found a good photo and background info on Steve at http://www.stevechandler.com/about.htm
