Publisher's summary

The author of the best-selling You Are Not So Smart shares more discoveries about self-delusion and irrational thinking, and gives readers a fighting chance at outsmarting their not-so-smart brains.

David McRaney's first book, You Are Not So Smart, evolved from his wildly popular blog of the same name. A mix of popular psychology and trivia, McRaney's insights have struck a chord with thousands, and his blog - and now podcasts and videos - have become an Internet phenomenon. Like You Are Not So Smart, You Are Now Less Dumb is grounded in the idea that we all believe ourselves to be objective observers of reality - except we're not. But that's okay, because our delusions keep us sane.

Expanding on this premise, McRaney provides eye-opening analyses of 15 more ways we fool ourselves every day. McRaney also reveals the true price of happiness, why Benjamin Franklin was such a badass, and how to avoid falling for our own lies. This smart and highly entertaining audiobook will be wowing listeners for years to come.

Excellent Information, Horribly Boring Narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The book itself is very interesting. I would change nothing regarding the content.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

I truly enjoyed learning about the psyche and psychological studies to help the listener/reader understand the premise behind how the human brain has evolved to act and understand things.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator has a voice like Droopy Dog - very hard to follow along unless concentrating very well. A more lively narrator would make this book extremely more enjoyable.

Was You Are Now Less Dumb worth the listening time?

It was a good book, don't get be wrong. I just found myself rewinding quite a bit because I would get extremely bored with the narrator.

Sterling follow-on to author's first book

What made the experience of listening to You Are Now Less Dumb the most enjoyable?

My comment on the David McRaney's first book "Your not so Smart" still holds - I wish I had this book memorized!

Awesome

Love the dry humor and right on observations. Well done. One of my new favorites.

Interesting, but not what I expected.

Primarily, a social psychology primer. I am, indeed, a bit smarter about my internal biases, as well as those of the masses.

worth the listen

To some this may be a revelatory experience as new biases and insights into the human condition are revealed. McRaney delivers the information in an accessible manner and keeps it from bogging down in the details. This is either good or bad depending on your perspective! I am quite familiar with much of the psychology and neuroscience behind the stories in this book but for those who are not, and wish to dig deeper he always references his sources.

*note to Audible* It would be very helpful for books such as these to make a PDF paper of the citations/sources available

Very helpful in understanding myself and other people

Since I don’t really have any background education in psychology everything in this book was fresh to me. I feel even if you do, it is a good refresher specifically on how we see others and interact with others to take everything less personally, and to better understand where we really are in order to get along and be happier.
