Publisher's summary

Many work hard on good posture and better walking and running alignment, but it’s critical to understand how what you put on your feet each day can play a bigger role in the function of your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and spine than you might realize.

“By applying the principles in this book, you will be able to restore your foundation and prevent dysfunction.” Ray McClanahan, DPM Biomechanist and author of Simple Steps to Foot Pain Relief, Katy Bowman offers walkers, runners, and health professionals alike clear, accessible lessons on how the shape of shoes can play a role in painful feet, knees, and hips and what to do about it.

When we have painful feet and weak ankles it seems like stiff, supportive shoes are the answer, but this solution can be temporary, especially if our issues stem from foot and leg weakness. In short, humans come with great “foot technology,” we just need to learn how to use it.

Minimal footwearshoes that protect your feet while still letting them move freely is gaining traction (get it?). Being barefoot is a natural human movement, but research shows simply kicking off our shoe-shackles and releasing our feet into the wild can result in injury. Whole Body Barefoot will help you safely and effectively transition to minimal footwear, reaping the enormous benefits of freeing your feet without injuring yourself along the way. A great book to listen to as you move working outside, during a walk or a marathon training run!

Accessible, Humorous and Wise

Katy delivers a concise, accessible lesson on responsible transition to minimal footwear, barefoot walking and natural movement.

You have to listen to the end to hear the blooper reel but the whole body book is full of humour throughout.

I love this book.

Some Authors should never be the ones to read their own works for an audio version. Katy Bowman is not one of those. Katy should ALWAYS read her books. I didn't even know outtakes were a thing for Audio books. The outtakes alone are worth the price of admission. Oh, and by the way- decades of bad habits have started to show up as symptoms in my feet (rock climbing, skiing, running and working in heeled shoes, etc..). The information in this book is already starting to help and I am only a couple of weeks in. Thanks for doing the work to really get into the sphincter of a marmot. We all appreciate it.

A completely new way to think about our feet!

Loved this book for it's information about how to care for the foundation of our bodies. But also for it's clarity and humor.

Author/narrator draws you in. Out takes at the end are hilarious!

Great book, great narration.

Audio books on movement are challenging. This author does a great job. I’m a movement educator and have always emphasized feet. It’s very difficult to get people interested because people don’t care about their feet until they can’t use them or they hurt. She makes the topic fun and interesting and has a great speaking voice. Don’t skip the outtakes!
