Publisher's summary

From the creator of the wildly popular webcomic xkcd comes this hilarious and informative book of answers to important questions you probably never thought to ask.

Millions of people visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. His stick-figure drawings about science, technology, language, and love have a large and passionate following. Fans of xkcd ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90 percent of the speed of light? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? If there were a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?

In pursuit of answers, Munroe runs computer simulations, pores over stacks of declassified military research memos, solves differential equations, and consults with nuclear reactor operators. His responses are masterpieces of clarity and hilarity, complemented by signature xkcd comics. They often predict the complete annihilation of humankind, or at least a really big explosion.

The book features new and never-before-answered questions, along with updated and expanded versions of the most popular answers from the xkcd website. What If? will be required listening for xkcd fans and anyone who loves to ponder the hypothetical.

scientific fun.

A fun book that answers hypothetical questions in a clever and witty way, backed by SCIENCE. Didn't learn as much as I wanted, but enjoyed the ride.

Nerd-gasm

This is wildly funny, brilliantly researched, and remarkably well written. A must for the science inclined. This made every one of my nerdy bits tingle with pleasure while reading.

Science!

A great companion to the physical book. Wil Wheaton does a great job with the sometimes technical material. The author's tone is definitely conveyed in the performance.

Well.....I guess........

I was absolutely not expecting this sort of information, and I do have to admit that the types of questions were heavily weighted toward physics, which is far from my strong suit.
I was hoping for, and expecting questions related to biology, chemistry, some small aspects of geometry or trigonometry, and perhaps some metaphysical observations. Not to be..…
Would I buy this again? Nope. Too far from my areas of expertise or interest. If the potential reader
is interested in these areas, then this might be the book for them.

Fantastic book

The narrator Wil Wheaten did such a great job reading this, just like he did with Ready Player One.

The author left me wishing this book was quadrupled in length... time to find another book similar to this

Amazing

One of the funniest and yet insightful books I have in my library, it's exactly what I would expect from xkcd! The addition of having Wil Wheaton narrating this brilliantly written book is nothing short of genius. You will laugh, you will wheeze, you will learn and you will laugh even more.

A must have in any serious nerds library!!

For the geek in all of us

Great, detailed answers to those questions that keep you awake at night. You know, the ones you remember in the morning and wonder if you were hallucinating the night before.
Wil Wheaton was the perfect narrator. He gives just the right amount of sarcasm and inflection throughout.
