Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

Loved it

Interesting throughout. Not only do you learn how habits impact our lives, but you also hear a lot of interesting stories surrounding each point the author makes. Super great nonfiction piece!

Incredible book that will inspire change

This book has helped identify the cues that lead to habit loops. It has caused me to focus on the keystone habits that in the past, have been unproductive and harmful. Since reading this book, I have stopped playing video games, stopped drinking, exercise regularly and have set goals for myself in both the gym and in my academic performance that have started I have seen being met. I have recommended it to friends with similarly success.

The ONLY downfall, is the narrator's reading of women in the audible version. It is terribly sexist. His inflection for every female quote gives an inflection that comes off flippant and makes them sound like airheads. His voicing of men is fine, but reverts to a particular voice every time he discusses women.

I'm a man, and this is so apparent that it aggravated me quite a bit during long stretches of the book that involved talking from the point of view of women. So much so that I had to write this (my only) audible review.

Still though, this book is inspiring and is a must read.

Every Enlighting.

I didn't think this book was going to be as good as it was. I learned a lot and the examples were spot on and the narrator has a great voice.

Fantastic book. Frustrating Narrator.

Would you listen to The Power of Habit again? Why?

Absolutely. There was much to learn that couldn't all be absorbed on the first listen

Any additional comments?

The Narrators insipid and often feeble imitation of women's voices nearly made me turn off the recording numerous times. I find it hard to believe that every woman in his life could speak with such a timid, unsure and child like tone.

Incredibly frustrating and a disappointing imitation of these often strong and powerful woman his is supposedly speaking for.

Starting Point for Self-Control

I don’t normally write reviews but I felt the need to say something. This is one of those books you come across occasionally that have a big impact on your life.

It presents the idea of how habits form using scientific data to back the arguments up. It teaches you how to be more self-aware of ones actions and habits and how to change them.

This is a book that takes all the knowledge and skills one has in life, and give the tools to learn how to apply them the move effectively. One word to describe what this book offers? Clarity.

Thank you. I would recommend this especially to high school students/college students looking to be the best form of themselves forever.

Wow

This is a very powerful revelation that I personally found inspiring. I’ve battled with cultivating good habits and fighting bad ones for such a long time that I will probably read this book several times and commit it to memory.
