Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

Practical and Entertaining

An exceedingly important topic dealt with entertainingly via narrative and example. My only reservation lies in the length of the examples being somewhat at the expense of a more practical description, which was given a brief overview in the appendix. For those just wishing to glean the 'how' the appendix would have sufficed.

Worth the read

I listen to the whole book. Very interesting discussion I'm concerning why we as human beings behave the way we do and how our minds turned to auto pilot. Illustrations of how to change habit which is a very difficult thing to do

Great book with readily applicable techniques...

This book presents strategies and techniques for identifying and changing habits that can be utilized right away.
I do think that many of the real world studies that the author used were really oversimplified and edited to allow a clean and succuient conclusion that validated the points he was trying to make.
But nonetheless, a great book with ideas and methods to change habits that I will continue to use in my life.
Also, the Narrator is great. He helped hold my interest throughought the book, especially during some pretty "dry" technical passages.

So a man thinketh …

Excellent book on dissecting our personal, organizational, and societal habits. And then, on how to cultivate positive habits and how to disassemble negative ones. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to be challenged personally or professionally to develop positive habits.

Best book lately. Big implications. Actionable!

Potentially life changing and culture changing research, communicated in a very Gladwell-like accessible and memorable style.
