Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

A worthwhile read

You might find it annoying how every chapter starts as a preface to a story. I didn't mind it that much and was patient. The best part was the chapters in conclusion where the author reveals the purpose of the book, that is, empowering his reader with the knowledge of how habits work and the power to change them consciously.
The narrator did great, although I disliked something subtle about him that I can't put my finger on; maybe his tonality or voice.. Anyway, the book is recommended, especially if you are unhappy with your life and want change. It says with conviction you have power and are in charge.

Very interesting and detailed

I loved this book. Very scientific, detailed and pleasant to listen. I have only one small complain, three chapters or so don't teach you much. They only satisfy your curiosity. Maybe the abridged version is better if you are short of time.

Changed my thinking

Would you listen to The Power of Habit again? Why?

This book helped me adjust to very challenging tasks and have fun doing them. The book is about the process of creating a habit. Any habit needs three components: a trigger, routine and a reward.

I used this simple approach in different situations. My favorite is to keep me going with my running exercise. I run for five km. I trick myself by putting a sport drink as my reward for every km run. I would sip some juice and fire agains looking for the next sip. I am not waiting for the finish line any more for the sport drink rewards.
