Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

One I revisit often

My only gripe about this audiobook is the unnatural and distracting voice acting when reading quotes.

Potentially life-changing

Mr. Duhigg has done the improbable - written a compelling and practical book about the most mundane of subjects - habits.

From the board rooms of publicly traded companies to football locker rooms, from church pews to university research laboratories, Mr. Duhigg takes a scalpel to habits and habit formation.

But make no mistake- Mr. Duhigg’s book is compelling in part because of its tight, focused narrative. Each example is tied to the next, and each chapter is built upon the next.

The conclusion hits like a freight train because it is BRIEF AND ACTION-ORIENTED AND BUILT UPON THE NARRATIVE HE’S ALREADY TOLD.

If only every self-help book were even half as compelling. Looking to change a habit? Here’s your guidebook.

PS- the narrator is outstanding. 10/10.

Highly recommend!

I thought the book was fascinating and I constantly wanted to return to listening. If you are interested in learning more about habits, want to master your own habits, or are in a position to help educate others on ways to improve their lives, this book is for you. I will absolutely be listening again as I try to implement some of the skills.

The beginning was informative but

I found the beginning informative about the extent of habits and the appendix on strategies to change habits was useful. I found the sections on gambling and sleep were way too long and not relatable as “habits.” overall I learned a few things. Was dismayed as the positive portrayal of Obama era politics and “never let a crises go to waste” as a good thing. but still found this educational in how our politicians have learned to manipulate or create crises to make political changes and institute government overreach. Not a big fan of the way the author framed his politics or the lengthy victim excuses in the gambling story. Some useful information when that crap is set aside.

Good info, excessive and boring stories.

Good information to learn, a lot of truth but heavily filled with examples that tend to bore instead of giving an example of the lesson.

Very informative; a little over-acted for my taste

Really good book with a great deal of practical tips on how to analyze our own habits and change them to our liking.
The only con for me (highly subjective) is the narrator. His voice sounds like he's teaching a kindergarten class.

Educational

I really enjoyed the overall education on how habits are formed. I also enjoyed the history lessons that played as an example to those habits. The comitator was nice to listen to, with good dialect and tone.
