Publisher's summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • This instant classic explores how we can change our lives by changing our habits.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Wall Street Journal • Financial Times

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. Distilling vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives that take us from the boardrooms of Procter & Gamble to the sidelines of the NFL to the front lines of the civil rights movement, Duhigg presents a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.

Useful and Enlightening.

Not my favorite book, but I firmly believe everyone should read this book to the point that i don’t just recommend it, but have bought copies for friends and family.
There isn’t a lot of entertainment value in this book, but the illustrations they used to teach the concepts break key ideas down enough that you can learn everything you need to know while doing a mindless task such as driving, or cooking something you make on a regular basis.
The information isn’t life changing in itself, and won’t teach you anything that you can implement overnight, but it exposes how your brain operates, what you need to look for, and how to start the somewhat lengthy (but reasonably so) process of changing your daily habits. And why should you change some of your daily habits? I’ll leave you with a quote that I still can’t find the author of: “Thoughts become words, words become deeds, deeds become habits, and habits become character. Character is everything.”

it will make you think

I really enjoyed this audiobook! It definitely makes you think, about your life, your habits, and how you unintentionally do things all day long that either help or harm you.. I also really enjoyed all the side-note stories about companies and businesses that use habits to market and run. a lot of the Lessons Learned are applicable to my life, even as a small business owner with no employees.

Excellent Book

I think this book was excellent. I like the way it was read, I saw some other reviews that didn't like the way it was read, and to each their own, but I thought it worked well for the story that needed to be told. I will be re-listening to it soon. I really liked listening to it, and my only disappointment was when I was finished, I want to keep learning more and more. Not that it lacked anything, I just felt I learned so much that I didn't want to stop. I use these audios to take my time while driving or walking my dog, and it was so enjoyable I will most likely listen several times.

Loved it!

Loved it! Typically, I cannot listen to non - fiction without falling asleep. Not so here! This book was awesome! Kept my attention from start to finish. Both entertaining and eye-opening info about how our brains and societal habits work with practical steps to begin change.

The book has good content, I just can't listen to that voice reading it. Just a personal preference.

A great discussion of what constitutes habits

This is the kind of "self-help" book I like - it is mostly a description of the concept of the habit based on lengthy examples, both mundane and historically significant. Only the appendix gets into the "self-help" part. I will read / listen to this one again.
