"Great place to start and learn HTML and JavaScript"
What made the experience of listening to JavaScript QuickStart Guide the most enjoyable?

This is a great resource and addition to learning to create web pages and design. Having the Ebook/pdf companion makes this very helpful while learning and made it easier.

Have you listened to any of Tony Fatania’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I used both the HTML and JavaScript Quick Start Guides. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.

    "JavaScript 101"

This book is a very easy to understand introduction to JavaScript. It is a great beginner's guide for anyone who is wanting to learn the basics of writing JavaScript. It doesn't go in depth into any one aspect of JS, but instead explains all the different necessary points. The narrator has a British accent which is easy to understand and flows nicely. The only issue I had was that he tends to read a bit slower so I found myself listening at 1.5x speed. I received this product at a discount in exchange for my fair and honest review. Nobody likes to be suckered, and everyone deserves to find trustworthy reviews, so I've attempted exactly that. "Glad they tried the Audio"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Try to localize the audio-book content. The narrator uses a European English language that includes words that I found distracting when trying to digest the information provided. As an example, when describing a JavaScript tag, the narrator used very formal (and lengthy) words to describe what he was saying, such that:

    would come out as

    left angle bracket, h, r, e, f, equal to sign, initial parenthesis, h, t, t, p, colon, forward slash, forward slash, w, w, w, period, e, x, a, m, p, l, e, period, c, o, m, forward slash, closing parenthesis, right angle bracket...

I initially hoped that the narrator would change up to a more condensed description of the JavaScript tags as the book progressed, but that didn't happen.

These kinds of descriptions, while very necessary and unavoidable, became very tedious to listen to for me. I am quite sure that this is quite normal, and probably explains why there aren't many audio-books for technical topics that involve coding.

Would you be willing to try another book from ClydeBank Technology and Martin Mihajlov ? Why or why not?

Yes, I'd still like to try other attempts on technical topics, but I'll be much quicker to judge based on my experience with this publication.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tony Fatania?

I would, but not for another technical topic.

Do you think JavaScript QuickStart Guide needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, I don't think that a follow-up is necessary. This QuickStart Guide sufficiently covers the topic it intended to address.

    Any additional comments?

Full Disclosure: I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. I have looked for audio-book content on technical topics for years; there aren't many. I was intrigued to find this book on JavaScript and really looked forward to making better use of my exercise time in the morning by learning (or at least familiarizing myself with) new skills. Unfortunately, I found that I was unable to easily digest the information in this audio-book because of a conflict between my spoken language (US English) and the narrator's. Tony is undoubtedly a fine narrator, but his accent, including the words that he uses in describing many of the repetitive items when describing JavaScript, is different from what I've always used and was difficult to translate internally while I was exercising.

"Use the PDF materials while listening…"

No issues with the content, but the audio works best when viewing the companion PDF document while listening. Also, the verbalization of software code character-by-character is unclear, and eventually annoying/boring all by itself. Again, listen to this with the PDF with attention focused on the material - this isn't a title you want to listen to while driving, for example.

"Ok for beginners that are auditory learners."

This audio book is a great starter for beginners. Especially if they are auditory learners. It did come with a PDF file of the book (that I had to request after listening to the first part of the book as I did not automatically receive the file when I got the book). I don't think I could have made it the whole way through the book without this file. I needed to see the script examples as my mind became numb hearing the code spoken.

The gentleman reading the book does a fine job. I just think the codes should not have been read, but that is just me. Also in reading the codes almost everything was given except spaces. When learning a new language/program you do not automatically know where those spaces go. So another good reason it comes with that PDF file (make sure you get it otherwise you may be very lost).

Overall it does give you a good start on understanding what Javascript is and how to write simple code.

I was given this book for free for my honest review.

    "Good resource for learning Javascript."

This is a very useful audio book if you're looking to refresh or add on coding skills in Javascript. I previously have listened to the HTML for Beginners Audio book from the same publisher (Clyde Banks), and I found the companion pdf to be an absolute necessity, even though I was already familiar with HTML. I am much less familiar with Javascript - I've coded bits in it here and there, but I'd just as soon avoid tinkering with it when I can. I will say that, while this audio book IS good and helpful, there is absolutely NO way I could manage it strictly from the audio. I have found that the audio book along with the companion pdf right next to me WHILE I'm at the computer is what really worked to help me see what the narrator was saying and explaining.

If you already have a basis in HTML, and are looking to expand your Javascript capabilities, and are willing to sit down at a desk, this audio book could be a great help. I do not think it would be helpful if you are planning on listening and absorbing while driving, and are unable to view the companion document.

I received this item using a coupon code for review purposes. Any opinion expressed is mine alone

"Worth the price, but you DO need the companion pdf"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

YES! It does contain a few mistakes that most people who program will easily catch. While Mr. Fatania speaks distinctly and clearly, his pronunciations of some words do not match my dictionary and it makes it annoying. He is also not consistent with how he refers to math operators which makes it confusing. Also, since it is billed as an audio book with a companion .pdf, most of the mind numbing reading of the code character-by-character should be left to the .pdf for reference and the basics/mechanics should just be described or explained.

Would you recommend JavaScript QuickStart Guide to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, because it is a 'Simplified Beginner's Guide'.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Tony Fatania?

    Possibly.

Was JavaScript QuickStart Guide worth the listening time?

    Yes

This is great for beginners to get a better idea of what they are about to jump into when it comes to JAVA. I am a newbie and this was helpful for the basic knowledge that I needed. I have high expectations for books that I learn from especially when I get it to ^^review for free.
