Perched on the end of the Florida peninsula, Miami lies directly between two major bodies of water famous for generating powerful tropical storms: the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. This simple and immutable fact means that in every hurricane season, it has the dubious distinction of being the U.S. city most likely to be hit.
