"Great place to start and learn HTML and JavaScript"
Would you consider the audio edition of HTML QuickStart Guide to be better than the print version?

Better when combined with the print(pdf) version for reference.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a great resource and addition to learning to create web pages and design. Having the Ebook/pdf companion makes this very helpful while learning and made it easier.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I used both the HTML and JavaScript Quick Start Guides. They go together like peanut butter and jelly.

    "Simple to follow along"

HTML Quick Start Guide is a basic overview of HTML. It is straightforward and easy to follow. The audiobook allows you follow along with the reader to build a very basic CV using HTML5. The instructions are simple and easy to follow along. The audiobook comes complete with the PDF version of the book. The PDF is especially helpful for visualizing the code as some of the reading of the code can drag on. If you are not actively typing code while listening to the audiobook, there are whole minutes of code being read that can be skipped. The PDF companion is easier to reference for these sections.

The reader has a light British accent that is easy to understand. The PDF companion is laid out well and offers good visual reference.

"A great quick start guide for learning HTML"

    My rating: 4.5 stars
Audiobook narrator Tony Fatania rating: 4 stars

I enjoyed having both the audio copy and written copy of this book. It was nice to have “someone read it to me” but I liked having the documentation that I could fall back on.

I thought this was an excellent quick start guide as it really does touch on the main, important, beginner topics of learning HTML. There is also a part that mentions a little bit of history and back story of HTML that I enjoyed and I thought added value to the book. The little notes on the sides of some of the pages are very handy and help explain things in a different way, thus giving more backstory and how to handle different options.

The best part about this is that the entire “lesson” is focused on accomplishing one thing and something that most people will do in their professional lives – crafting a CV (or a resume). It may sound like “really, that’s all it does?” but in reality, this book is perfectly constructed at explaining all of the different concepts of what you need to know and how to build on what you already have.

It seems that every learning resource for HTML is different and usually good in their own way. This quick start guide helped me to craft a nice looking, web-based resume (or CV) that I will be using for my personal info!

The narrator did a great job of reading this book and being very clear with his voice. It’s hard to fully judge this kind of reading simply because there are no character-differences and there is no reason for voice inflections. In any case, he was the perfect voice for a technical guide.

If you want to have a true quick start learning guide to HTML, then this audiobook combined with the written content gives you double the training with it being audible and visible. You will have a better learning experience this way.

The only thing that I would change is maybe with the written portion. I would think that it would be helpful to block out the code text a little differently and maybe even add some color to it to help denote things better.

"Valuable Refresher for a ComSci Graduate"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I am a Computer Science graduate but it's been more than a decade since I graduate. As with computer knowledge, it's considered obsolete now. This is a great refresher book which is easy to understand. The basics were discussed in the early part and I think even a newbie would understand it. I have decided to start a new blog so I got interested in this book. I am still continuing to learn more about it. I find it great that there are examples in the topics which I can easily follow. This audiobook includes a PDC version for easier understanding, as you know, it's going to be hard to work with codes just by listening. Also, the speaker talks clearly, the tone was just right and the voice was suited for the topic. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

    "Wonderful introduction to HTML"
What did you love best about HTML QuickStart Guide?

I just started my own blog and quickly moved it to a website. I was all the sudden in this area I knew nothing about, HTML. I was learning bits and pieces here and there by googling things. I was progressing much slower than my blog popularity. Then I got this book. Yes, you can pretty much find all of the material in this book somewhere on the Internet, but chances are it will not be covered in as much detail or depth. This literally walks you through things. I definitely think that anyone just dipping their foot into the water with HTNL should real this book!

    "Informative guide - PDF helpful"
If you could sum up HTML QuickStart Guide in three words, what would they be?

    Informative, long, helpful

    Any additional comments?

This guide does a good job presenting HTML basics.

The audio format is definitely hard for this kind of topic. They have also created a companion PDF file to follow along and I definitely recommend listening with this document. I didn't have it and it took a lot of concentration to picture the code they were describing. Do yourself a favor and listen with the PDF in front of you or you will be hearing a lot of, "left angle brackets, forward slash.... right angle bracket." This information would definitely be easier in another format, but this is nice if you're on the go and want to learn something.

The reader of this audiobook has a nice English accent and speaks very clearly. It runs almost 2 1/2 hours long, so give yourself some time or break it into pieces.

I received this product free of charge to facilitate my review and all opinions are my own.

    Story
"Great way to lear to use HTMLs"
Would you consider the audio edition of HTML QuickStart Guide to be better than the print version?

This audiobook comes with a pdf of the print version of the book. This is an excellent idea because the print version contains example images of what you are creating, without asking you to fork out extra money to get the kindle or printed versions.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

This book doesn't actually have a story, which is why I gave it a neutral score of 3 for Story.

What does Tony Fatania bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Tony Fatania has the sort of voice you would hear when watching a TV show aimed at teaching you how to do stuff. This is excellent, because that is exactly what he is doing here. His voice is clear and easy to understand, meaning that you can easily follow along if you are creting the documents whilst listening.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This isn't the sort of book that can move you, because it's just teaching you the basics of HTML. Just like I said in the question about changing the story, I can't give any answer for this.

    Any additional comments?

Before listening to this audiobook I barely knew anything about using HTML. The little information I did know was stuff I read about 6 years ago that was from an old partwork magazine from the 90s that a neighbour let me have. Now I know how to make some basic webpages with images, without cheating and using Microsoft Word's built in web page creator.
