Our kids are no longer our future. They're our demise.
Humanity's advancements in medicine, meant to eliminate disease and extend life, have led to a macabre reality of childhood vaccinations gone terribly wrong. Kids have transformed, changed into ravenous beasts that are nightmarishly quick, disproportionally strong, and void of empathy. No amount of planning or preparation could have saved the human race against this unexpected attack, centralized in the heart of every human home, and the US is quickly thrown into a chaos of Z Children. By the end of the first day, the entire world is jolted into a veritable hell on earth. Yet, there are survivors - individuals who, by luck, skill, or circumstance, lived through the initial wave of destruction. These 'lucky' ones will join together, bonded in their quest for survival. They will try to maintain their humanity in a world where children have graduated from bubble baths to blood baths. And they will try to find an answer to the only question that matters: What will tomorrow bring?

First, let me note that I received this audiobook for free through AudibookBoom, in exchange for an honest review. So I really wasn't expecting much. So many authors are jumping on the zombie band wagon, turning out pretty poor imitations of the greats. But I was bored, nothing to listen to, and there was this book that I could listen to for free. So why not?
Zombie children?.....yah, I wasn't expecting much. But I absolutely LOVED it! I turned it on and didn't stop until the 6 hour, 11 minute mark! (I fell asleep at 2 a.m.) Got up the following day and finished the remaining hour. I couldn't put it down. If book 2 was out, I would have immediately paid a full $15 audible credit for it!
I won't go into details about the story line. I'll just keep it short with: All of the children that got their vaccinations, turned into zombies. Boom, the zombie apocalypse.
There were just a few, tiny little details that needed editing. I'm only mentioning them, so that if the author reads this, he can make sure to maybe have someone else proofread the next book. A female character was listening to her mom's voice mail, that she's listened to a hundred times because her mom died a month after leaving it. A short while later in the book, this character is talking about her parents currently being in a retirement home/community and hope they'll be ok during the zombie outbreak. Mom died a little while back, so she can't be in the retirement home now.
Z Children ranks among the top 10 of all the audiobooks I have listened to which is quite expansive. The brilliant writing and narration combined makes this story a perfect 5 stars for me. I will be definitely listening to this book again.
I would compare Z Children to the Wormwood series. Although in Wormwood, there are no children zombies but there are adult zombies, creative characters, intrigue, suspense and horror as there is in this book. I was never a Zombie Apocalypse reader before but Z Children and Wormwood have definitely drawn me in.
There was no one character I would say was my favorite. Johnny Mack did an excellent portrayal of all characters. Between the writing of Eli Constant & B V Barr and the phenomenal narration of Johnny Mack, I felt as if I was part of the story because the story was written from a first person point of view and Johnny Macks' delivery was impeccable. Johnny adds intensity, suspense, fear and terror to the story with his outstanding narration. Mr. Macks' superb delivery of this story will capture and grip you right from the beginning and will draw you into the story and keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Johnny Mack is a MASTER of his trade when it comes to narration. I will be looking for other books performed by Mr. Mack.
This was a book I wanted to listen to all in one sitting and did as such. My mistake was listening to it right up until bedtime. The storyline and characters are so well written and realistic that I had nightmares of these Z children coming after me. I absolutely loved this book and recommend it highly to anyone who appreciates a good Zombie Apocalypse book. This is beyond good ... it is excellent. I am impatiently and anxiously awaiting book 2 because the ending has me wondering.

This is a typical and GOOD zombie book with a twist it is zombie children. There is gore and horror as kids act like your typical adult zombies after vaccines. I highly recommend it for zombie addicts and look forward to next book. This is the first zombie genre book which I have read or listened to which is focused on a outbreak within the kids. It is a novel approach. To be totally honest I was a little hesitate in purchasing this one because I thought the little kids thing would be to stressful for me... I know I am a big baby, well that is what my wife says!
I needed have been worried because it wasn't the zombie children that caused me the tension. That side of things was handled brilliantly! The only tension I had was with some of the characters, perhaps a little to stereotyped, one sided, a little to extreme to be believable! But boy did they suck me in! Right from the start! There is just the right amount of detail in each encounter with a zombie. I also liked how the story switched from chapter to chapter to a different perspective, this really helped with the character development. The use of humour is good, it is not like a Jake Bible's use of humour in 'Z-Burbia' but enough to break the tension and stress.
This turned out to be one of those stories that I wished I could have listen to in one sitting. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a second in the series.
Narrator Johnny Mack only has one other title on audible. I found his voice pleasant to listen to but way to slow. Easily listened to at 1.5x speed, but probably best suited for 1.25x speed. I just couldn't handle listening to it at normal speed. I am not to sure if it just the fact I downloaded the audio at standard quality or if I just got a dud download, but every time the narrator spoke I could hear static. It was distracting with a good quality set of earbuds. But not as obvious if I listened to it with earphones or a speaker. It certainly shouldn't turn you off from buying it, but it has made me reconsider my choice of quality settings when I download from now on. The narrator had to do multiple characters with multiple genders and I think he did an excellent job! I would have no hesitation with purchasing a book narrated by Johnny Mack. I hope he continues to pick quality titles like this one in the future!
A definite two thumbs up from the worlds fastest fatman!
I loved the zombie children in the TW Brown series The Dead so this wasn't anything new for me. This was a great book & I look forward to the next installment.
There were a few things that made me scratch my head but overall it was excellent. I'm a zombie, apocalypse SHTF book fiend.

Zombie Children Awaken!!!
This is a very good zombie book. I highly recommend it for zombie addicts and look forward to the next book. This audiobook was given to me for an honest review. But it was so enjoyable I would gladly have paid for it AND I will definately watch for a sequel! Thank You for a great listen!
This book raises the question, what if children were the cause of the zombie apocalypse? What would you do if your child was suddenly one of the undead? It was a different take on the zombie fiction genre and was quite refreshing. I enjoyed the storyline of most of the characters. It skipped around quite a bit and I felt some of the time was wasted on characters who didn't make it very far into the book. Why invest us in someone who is just going to die within a few chapters? I enjoyed the narrator's voice very much. He did a great job with all of the character voices, which helped to enhance the book overall.
I received this audio book at no charge via AudioBookBoom in exchange for my honest review, and honestly I would have been happy to pay for it. In fact, I want to download the sequel now, it was that good.
