After surviving a round-trip to hell, Piper figures that she can survive anything. After all, she just lived through the devastating loss of her consul apprenticeship and a torturous stint at boarding school. How much worse could it get?
Well, she wasn't expecting a group of crazy radicals to burn her home to the ground and take her prisoner. The Gaians, aka the crazy radicals, plan to rid Earth of daemons, and they need Piper's help. In exchange for her cooperation, they promise her the answer to all her problems: magic. With her own magic, she could reclaim her apprenticeship, the only future she's ever wanted. But her magic comes at price- it could kill her. With the only life she's ever known crumbling around her and her future slipping from her grasp, she needs Ash's help one more time. But the greatest danger of all lies within her, and no matter what she does, she may lose everything - including him.

Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything. - Plato
I love this series! It has everything I look for in a audiobook. Mystery, action, adventure, drama, & romance. The characters are awesome. I could not wait for the next books to be released on audible so I got the kindle version to find out what is next. I'm planing to get all of them on Audible when it is released so I can listen to them again. I hope the Author will expand and write stories for several of the main characters when Piper & Ash's story wraps up.
I'm leaving this review on all of the books from this series, but no real spoilers here.
I can say that I'm terribly sad that I'm almost done with the 5th book in this series (even if only 3 are on audible), I am worried that I won't be able to find another series that I love quite like this one, not for awhile. But in another way I'm a little bit glad that I am almost done because I can get back to my life afterward!
I read a ton of books. I don't always leave reviews, but I had to leave one for this series because it kept me going and going and going. I never wanted to put it down. I had to force myself to do so. And when I found that the last two books were not on audible I almost cried, not kidding. The narrator, while not my favorite at first, ended up fantastic.
The plot was awesome. Slight spoiler here: the love story is terrific. There wasn't much of the icky-sweet, romantic-puke, "our love is the strongest love that ever existed" crap that I see in other series that always makes me go "Really? C'mon now." This one was so much more realistic.
I like that the characters are strong but faulted. I love how the friendship between the 3 grows so strong. I wish Piper would say "Thank you" once in awhile, but I'll get over it. I like how the twists happen, when you think one thing might happen and then, bam, another thing happens.
This series had me gripped from *literally* (I'm using that with it's intended meaning), the first chapter of the first book. That is my favorite type of book, the kind that just grip you and won't let you go. I haven't had that happen to me for a long time and it was such a pleasant surprise, even if it did keep my up until 3 in the morning a few times. These are going on my faves shelf because...well...they are.
Dear Annette Marie, more please? Pretty please?
If I can get myself list in the storyline, it's really a good series. My problem is in the narration. It's not bad, so much, as she just constantly sounds congested. Like she's battling a severe cold. She's clear enough, but there's just something that makes me want to clear my throat and blow my nose about her 😕
I enjoy mysteries, wrapped with violence and sprinkled with romance.
I haven't read the book but I am finding the audio to be just fine. Others seem to have problems with the narrator, but I find that she is doing a good job even though she is not my favorite.
I liked that the plot was moving into some different twists that I wasn't expecting, and the characters were not in such depressing situations.
I like Lyre and his saucy voice.
Piper's decision at the end. Won't say more because I don't want to spoil.
Another great installment in the series. I actually 'read' (not listened) the next book in the series because it wasn't out on audible yet. That's pretty drastic for me since I usually don't have extra time and have to multi-task by listening while I do other things. I just couldn't wait!
These books really do just keep getting better. Annette Marie really is a capable author. You find yourself loving or hating all the right characters, and you feel like you are right in the action.
Audio books have made my life infinitely more enjoyable!
Every book in this series makes me want to scream in frustration when I'm finished with them because I want more! I am thoroughly engrossed in this series and want more, more, more! This is an addictive and compelling series!
