Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance, audiobook two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes". Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin’s master has much deeper motives.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Stormlight = Crack for Fantasy nerds!

This is Book 2 of 10 in the Stormlight Archives, and takes up directly at the end of the first book. The main story continues towards the Desolation, which isn't described a whole lot in this book, but advances the personal stories of Shallan, Kaladin, and Dalinar as well as their minor cast of friends and family. Another super detailed and textured work by Sanderson, so perfectly performed by Kate and Michael that you feel you have already watched this movie in your head. Once you hit the 3/4 mark, you wont be able to turn it off! Great story

Tremendous storyline. Rich characters

Sanderson has become a master storyteller. Without getting too wordy I would say that he is one of the greats when it comes to creating a whole new universe with diverse characters with flaws and redemptive traits. I could not stop listening to this. Beautiful sequel to the Way of Kings. Now on to Oathbringer. Can’t wait to get started. Gift yourself these first two Stormlight books. You will not be disappointed.

Best narrator in the world

Michael Kramer is the best narrator in the business. His wife Kate is fine, but not as engaging.

4.75 Stars - Epic...Lull...Epic Again.

This is an amazing sequel, although I couldn’t give the story the full 5 stars. Only because there was about 50-100 pages of second act lull where I found myself losing only the smallest bit of interest in what was going on. Other than that though this second book of the Stormlight Archive was flawless. There was action, drama, a smidge of comedy to keep everything light hearted. Overall, another high recommendation, I’m ready for Oathbringer now. I literally have the paperback version sitting on my lap ready to go as I write this review (the hardback edition I own is on the shelf, of course). And as always...thank you Brandon Sanderson for being the Stephen King of the fantasy genre. I, of course, will carry on being one of your many constant readers.

Solid continuation!

The ending was a little trope-y, but the characters are strong and the acting good.

Words of radiance really out shines most other books that I have ever read

This was a great book kept me on the edge of my seat the hallway through. I had a really hard time putting it down. The writer of these books has such a wonderful imagination and the two people who are the storytellers are wonderful. The voices , the characters, they really making you feel like it is that specific character talking.
